A Surrogate Piecewise Linear Loss Function for Contextual Stochastic Linear Programs in Transport
Accurate decision making under uncertainty for transport problems often requires predicting unknown parameters from contextual information. Traditional two-stage frameworks separate prediction and optimization, which can lead to suboptimal decisions, as ...

Weighted $1\times1$ cut-and-project sets in bounded distance to a lattice
Recent results of Grepstad and Lev are used to show that weighted cut-and-project sets with one-dimensional physical space and one-dimensional internal space are bounded distance equivalent to some lattice if the weight function $h$ is continuous on the ...

Modeling nonlinear systems using multiple piecewise linear equations
This paper describes a technique for modeling nonlinear systems using multiple piecewise linear equations. The technique provides a means for linearizing the nonlinear system in such a way as to not limit the large signal behavior of the target system ...

Piecewise Linearization of Real Analytic Functions

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.
