A Vanishing Imprint? Modeling the Present and Future Distribution of the Enigmatic Quercus crenata Lam., a Mediterranean Sporadic Tree Species. [PDF]
Quercus crenata Lam. is a sporadic Mediterranean tree species with debated taxonomy and evolutionary history. Confusing identifications and a scattered distribution combine to an incautious lack of comprehensive and reliable information on its spatial distribution, ecology, and genetic resources, thereby hindering correct management and conservation ...

Abstract Paleogeographic reconstructions show that the Ligurian‐Piedmont Ocean (LPO) was a relatively narrow oceanic basin but the actual amount of oceanic lithosphere generated and the timing of magmatic accretion are still subjects of debate. New U–Pb dating of zircon from two pairs of FeTi‐oxide metagabbro and metaplagiogranite s.l.

Abstract Detrital geochronology employing the widely‐used zircon U‐Pb proxy is biased toward igneous events and metamorphic anatexis; additionally, zircon is highly refractory and frequently polycyclic. Garnet, a rock‐forming and thus commonly occurring mineral, is predominantly metamorphic and much less refractory.

The Tertiary Piedmont Basin (NW Italy) developed on the Alps–Apennines tectonic junction. By the integration of microthermometry, low‐temperature thermochronology and burial history we constrained a paleo‐geothermal gradient of 45 ± 5°C/km. Numerical simulations indicate that the elevated gradient can be best explained by mantle upwelling. Abstract The

Abstract In the Western Alps, while many P–T constraints are available for the high‐grade units, the dataset for the low‐grade units located along the westernmost edge of the belt remains scarcer and incomplete. To face these uncertainties, we quantify for the first time the metamorphic peak conditions of the Marguareis Unit, a fragment of European ...

Abstract This article reconstructs Vasile Alecsandri's political and cultural activities at an international level, as he attempted to raise public awareness (particularly in France and Italy) for the Romanian national cause, namely, by staking claim to the ‘Latinity’ of Romanians.

Erosional surfaces and deposits linked to the Messinian Salinity Crisis are restored to their original depth by planform flexural‐isostatic backstripping. A large seismic dataset covering the Western Mediterranean is used to constrain the current depth of Messinian markers, and by matching the water level to interpreted shoreline markers at the bottom ...

Abstract In many orogenic wedges, foreland basin systems are preferential sites for economical resource accumulation, typically hydrocarbons. Understanding how structural inheritance perturbs the evolution of folding‐related deformation and impacts on subsurface fracture patterns bears first order economic and environmental implications, when also CO2 ...
