Provenance of synorogenic deposits of the Upper Cretaceous–Lower Palaeogene Jarmuta–Proč Formation (Pieniny Klippen Belt, Western Carpathians)

open access: yesGeologica Carpathica, 2019
The Pieniny Klippen Belt contains thickening and coarsening upwards synorogenic sedimentary successions witnessing the collision of the Oravic ribbon continent with the Central Carpathian orogenic wedge after the closure of the Vahic Ocean in the Late ...

A unique Valanginian paleoenvironment at an iron ore deposit near Zengővárkony (Mecsek Mts, South Hungary), and a possible genetic model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The spatially restricted Early Valanginian iron ore (limonite) and manganese deposit at Zengõvárkony (Mecsek Mts, southern Hungary) contains a rich, strongly limonitized, remarkably large-sized (specimens are 30–70% larger than those at their type ...

The Middle Jurassic succession in the central sector of the Pieniny Klippen Belt (Sprzycne Creek): implications for the timing of the Czorsztyn Ridge development

open access: yesGeologica Carpathica, 2015
In this study, we revisit the stratigraphic age and discuss sedimentary characteristics of the lower Middle Jurassic turbidite deposits (“black flysch”) of the Szlachtowa Formation, as well as the under- and overlying members of the Sprzycne Creek ...

Tectono-sedimentary analysis using the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility: a study of the terrestrial and freshwater Neogene of the Orava Basin

open access: yesGeologica Carpathica, 2017
The Orava Basin is an intramontane depression filled with presumably fine-grained sediments deposited in river, floodplain, swamp and lake settings. The basin infilling constitutes a crucial record of the neoalpine evolution of the Inner/Outer Carpathian

Where was the Magura Ocean? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous palaeogeography of the Alpine Tethys the term Ocean is used for different parts of these sedimentary areas: eg. Ligurian-Piedmont and Penninic, Magura, Pieniny, Valais and Ceahlau-Severins oceans. The Magura Ocean

Microfacies and geochemistry of Kimmeridgian limestone strata in the Eastern Pontides (North‐East Turkey): Palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironmental influence on organic matter enrichment

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 4-21, February 2025.
Kimmeridgian limestone (KL) strata are one best example of a peritidal carbonate that records palaeogeographic and palaeoclimate conditions in Eastern Pontide, Eastern Black Sea region. The KL strata are represented by well‐preserved dark grey lime‐mudstones that archive important geochemical proxy.

Age, Kinematic and Thermal Constraints of Syn‐Orogenic Low‐Temperature Deformation Events: Insights From Thermochronology and Structural Data of the Nekézseny Thrust (Alpine‐Carpathian‐Dinaric Area)

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 43, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract Unraveling the age and kinematics of low temperature deformation events is crucial in understanding the late‐stage evolution of orogens. However, accurate age constraints can often be challenging to obtain due to unideal outcrop conditions, large sedimentary hiatuses or the lack of well‐defined thermal events.

The Impact of the Bohemian Spur on the Cooling and Exhumation Pattern of the Eastern Alpine Wedge of the European Alps

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 43, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract Fold and thrust belt architecture may be influenced by basement geometry of the downgoing plate. This influence is notoriously difficult to assess due to a common lack of subsurface constraints and low resolution of exhumation estimates in space and time.

Middle Jurassic stromatactis mud-mound in the Pieniny Klippen Belt (Western Carpathians)

open access: yesFacies, 2002
A stromatactis mud-mound has been found near SlavnickeŽ Podhorie in the Czorsztyn Unit of the Pieniny Klippen Belt (Western Carpathians, Slovakia). Its stratigraphic range is Bathonian to Callovian and it is one of the youngest known true stromatactis mud-mounds.

The Alpine-Carpathian-Dinaridic orogenic system: correlation and evolution of tectonic units [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A correlation of tectonic units of the Alpine-Carpathian-Dinaridic system of orogens, including the substrate of the Pannonian and Transylvanian basins, is presented in the form of a map.
