The Pierre Auger Observatory – status and prospects [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 2006
The southern Pierre Auger Observatory is presently under construction in Malargue, Mendoza, Argentina. It combines two complementary air shower observation techniques; the detection of particles at ground and the observation of associated fluorescence light generated in the atmosphere above the ground.

AugerPrime implementation in the DAQ systems of the Pierre Auger Observatory

open access: yesInternational Conference on Rebooting Computing, 2023
The AugerPrime upgrade of the Pierre Auger Observatory converts the existing surface detector, consisting of an array of 1660 water-Cherenkov detectors (WCDs), into a multi-hybrid instrument.

Photovoltaic monitoring system for Auger Muons and Infill for the Ground Array

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 6, Issue 4, Page 289-305, August 2018., 2018
The characterization of a PV system with solar controllers in parallel is made. The telemetric monitoring system is used, designed for characterizing the PV system. Data analysis of solar radiation and photovoltaic system behavior is made. The PV system is used in the AMIGA project of the Pierre Auger Observatory.

Highlights from the Pierre Auger Observatory

open access: yes, 2013
The Pierre Auger Observatory is the world's largest cosmic ray observatory. Our current exposure reaches nearly 40,000 km$^2$ str and provides us with an unprecedented quality data set.

The AugerPrime upgrade of the Pierre Auger Observatory

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2023
Operating since 2004, the Pierre Auger Observatory has yielded several important results. The suppression of the flux around 5×1019 eV is now confirmed without any doubt, a large-scale dipole anisotropy has been found for energies above 8×1018 eV, as ...

Capability of the HAWC Gamma‐Ray Observatory for the Indirect Detection of Ultrahigh‐Energy Neutrinos

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
The detection of ultrahigh‐energy neutrinos, with energies in the PeV range or above, is a topic of great interest in modern astroparticle physics. The importance comes from the fact that these neutrinos point back to the most energetic particle accelerators in the Universe and provide information about their underlying acceleration mechanisms ...

On the possibility to measure galactic photons at the altitude of the Pierre Auger Observatory

open access: yesInternational Conference on Rebooting Computing, 2023
The presence of galactic sources displaying a power-law dependence in their gamma-ray fluxes has been recently reported by gamma-ray observatories such as LHAASO and HAWC.

On the Impact of Tsallis Statistics on Cosmic Ray Showers

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
We investigate the impact of the Tsallis nonextensive statistics introduced by intrinsic temperature fluctuations in p‐Air ultrahigh energy interactions on observables of cosmic ray showers, such as the slant depth of the maximum Xmax and the muon number on the ground Nμ. The results show that these observables are significantly affected by temperature
