Piezocone penetrometer measurements in coastal Louisiana wetlands

Ecological Engineering, 2019
Abstract The importance of geotechnical properties and behavior of wetland soils is underscored by the many studies on wetland loss, e.g., marsh edge erosion, shallow subsidence, wetland collapse, and uprooting. This study provides an overview of using a modified piezocone penetrometer to rapidly evaluate marsh shear strength, porosity, and ...

Piezocone testing in underconsolidated clay

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1989
This paper describes the results of piezocone testing that was carried out in underconsolidated soft marine clay in Osaka Bay. The obtained profiles of the tip resistance and the pore-water pressure were quite different from those for clay strata of normally consolidated state.

Soil Classification Using Piezocone Soundings

2011
Four existing soil classification methods using piezocone test (uCPT) results have been applied to classify soil strata in Saga, Japan. By comparing with the borehole records, it has been found that Robertson's methods are applicable for clayey soils in Saga.

Coefficient of consolidation from piezocone measurements

Géotechnique, 2005
Pore pressure dissipation tests were carried out employing two miniature piezocones, with areas of 1 cm2 and 5 cm2, in a bed of reconstituted kaolin. By using independently determined values of the coefficient of consolidation, the results were interpreted to derive appropriate values of rigidity index for use with the theory of Teh & Houlsby.

The Development of the Torpedo-Piezocone

29th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering: Volume 1, 2010
The paper describes the development of a soil investigation equipment, consisted of a piezocone installed at the tip of a torpedo-pile. The new equipment, named torpedo-piezocone, is able to measure cone resistance (qc), sleeve friction (fs), pore-pressure at the cone face (u1) and cone shoulder (u2) as well as cone temperature during free-fall and ...
