Piezocone Penetration Testing in Atlantic Piedmont Residuum
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2001Piezocone soundings were performed in residual silts and fine sands of the U.S. Atlantic Piedmont geologic province to investigate penetration pore-water pressures and subsequent dissipation characteristics in these nontextbook geomaterials. Piedmont residuum has been formed by the in-place weathering of Paleozoic schist, gneiss, and granite.

A Soil Stratifying Method Based on Piezocone Penetration Test
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013This paper introduces the empirical method of classifying soil layers with CPTU. Pore pressure dissipation test was taken in a certain soft clay field, according to the characteristics of penetration curve and the value of static point resistance, frictional resistance, friction-resistance ratio, soil horizon was divided.

Determination of Hydraulic Conductivity Using Piezocone Penetration Test
International Journal of Geomechanics, 2003An elastoplastic, finite-strain, coupled theory of mixtures in an updated Lagrangian reference frame is applied to the piezocone penetration test to estimate the hydraulic conductivity of the soil ...

Numerical Study of the Effect of Clay Structure on Piezocone Penetration Test Results
International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering, 2021Studies of the effect of clay structure on piezocone penetration test (CPTU) results are beneficial for interpreting CPTU data in naturally or artificially cemented structured clays. The structured Cam clay (SCC) model was implemented into Abaqus, and the validity of the user-defined material (UMAT) subroutine of SCC was verified by predicting the ...

Piezocone Penetration Testing in Soft Cohesive Soils
1985The difficulty in obtaining samples for laboratory testing in very soft cohesive marine deposits necessitates the use of in-situ testing methods. Piezocone penetrometers that measure the tip resistance qc, sleeve friction fs, and the generated pore pressure u, are one of the most repeatible and reliable in-situ testing methods.

A Penetration Processing Study of Piezocone Penetration Test in Cutoff Wall
2018The penetration processing of piezocone penetration test (CPTU) is very important for the analysis of stress-strain of soil bentonite cutoff wall (SBCW) in landfill site. In this paper, CPTU is conducted in the soil bentonite cutoff wall, which is located in Jiangsu province, China.

Assessment of Measurement Errors of Piezocone Penetration Test in Soft Clay
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2016Uncertainty evolved through in situ testing, such as measurement error, is a major concern in the characterization of soft clays that suffer from the low strength and high sensitivity of soil properties. In this research, 20 piezocone penetration tests (CPTUs) in a laboratory calibration chamber and 25 CPTUs performed in marine soft clay in Lianyungang,

Finite-Element Analysis of Inclined Piezocone Penetration Test in Clays
International Journal of Geomechanics, 2005A three-dimensional finite-element analysis was performed to analyze the effect of soil anisotropy on the inclined piezocone penetration test in normally consolidated clay. The piezocone penetration was numerically simulated based on a large strain formulation using the commercial finite-element code ABAQUS, and the anisotropic modified cam clay model (

Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems 1999, 1999
Soil densification by vibro-replacement is commonly prescribed to reduce the potential for large strains and instability associated with pore pressure generation in granular soil during earthquakes. Penetration tests such as the standard penetration test (SPT) and piezocone penetration test (CPTU) are used to assess the need for such ground treatment ...
