Geotechnical Characteristic Assessments of Floodplain Soils Using SCPTU Data in Nanjing, China

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
In order to improve the understanding of such floodplain sediments and determining the validity of the tests, an extensive series of multifunctional seismic piezocone tests with pore pressure dissipation phase have been performed and supplemented with ...

Sedimentary facies characterization through CPTU profiles: An effective tool for subsurface investigation of modern alluvial and coastal plains [PDF]

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 70, Issue 4, Page 1302-1327, June 2023., 2023
Cone penetration tests, a method that is typically used to determine the engineering properties of soils, can be used as an effective tool for refined subsurface stratigraphic investigations of alluvial and coastal plains, aside from the geographic ...

Evaluation Method for the Liquefaction Potential Using the Standard Penetration Test Value Based on the CPTU Soil Behavior Type Index

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Taking the project of the Su-xin highway treated by using the resonant compaction method as the reference, a new method for the evaluation of liquefaction potential is proposed based on the piezocone penetration test (CPTU) and the standard penetration ...

Analysis of piezocone penetration under different drainage conditions with the two-phase Material Point Method [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering - ASCE, 2016
The piezocone penetration test (CPTU) is commonly used to identify the soil profile and to estimate material properties. Depending on the soil type, ranging from clay to sand, undrained, partially drained or drained conditions may occur during cone ...

Prediction Method for Overconsolidation Ratio of Marine SoftSoil Based on the Piezocone Penetration Tests

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Because of the strong structural and sensitive behavior, the properties of marine soft soil change greatly when subjected to external disturbances, which leads to great difficulty in reflecting its real mechanical properties in the laboratory soil tests.

Evaluation of Pile Lateral Bearing Capacity-Based on Cone Penetration Test Results

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
To analyze the bearing capacity of pile foundations under horizontal loads, a new method based on the piezocone penetration test (CPTU) data for calculating pile p-y curves was proposed.

Improving the interpretation of undrained shear strength from piezocone penetration tests by integrating soil physical properties using a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Conventional empirical equations for estimating undrained shear strength (su) from piezocone penetration test (CPTu) data, without incorporating soil physical properties, often lack the accuracy and robustness required for geotechnical site ...

Dominant factors in MiniCone, CPT and pile correlations: A data‐based approach

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, Volume 2, Issue 4, Page 346-358, December 2023., 2023
Using a database comprising MiniCone and cone penetration test (CPT) records in the field and physical modeling with a variety of cone diameters, case study records have been obtained from 140 tests compiled from data from 26 sources. The sources include the results of 20 physical modelings and field data from six sites in 10 countries.

The effect of heterogeneities and small cavities on levee failures: The case study of the Panaro levee breach (Italy) on 6 December 2020

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 16, Issue 2, June 2023., 2023
Abstract This article discusses the levee failure that occurred on 6 December 2020 at Castelfranco Emilia, near Modena (Italy), showing that it cannot be explained without assuming the presence of local heterogeneities or a small cavity. The possible presence of these defects is supported by evidence derived from historical data and site observations ...
