Piezoelectric actuators in micropositioning

Engineering Science & Education Journal, 2001
Micromachines can be built only with the aid of other machines that have micropositioning abilities. Fast and precise positioning devices are needed to increase reliability and speed in the production of the miniaturized devices. Intensive research effort has been devoted to developing new technologies for actuators and sensors.

Piezoelectric membrane actuator design

2011 12th Intl. Conf. on Thermal, Mechanical & Multi-Physics Simulation and Experiments in Microelectronics and Microsystems, 2011
This paper presents the study of piezoelectric actuators. After the description of simulated actuators and simulation conditions, results will be discussed to define the best actuator design in terms of membrane displacement and compactness. The actuator behaviour under temperature variation is also checked.

Piezoelectric T-Beam Actuators

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2011
This paper develops models, fabricates, experimentally tests, and optimizes a novel piezoelectric T-beam actuator. With a T-shaped cross-section, and bottom and top flanges and web electrodes, a cantilevered beam can bend in both in-plane and out-of-plane directions upon actuation.

Piezoelectrically actuated droplet ejector

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1997
This article presents a novel piezoelectric fluid ejector that is based on a variation of the design of a flextensional transducer that excites axisymmetric resonant modes in a clamped circular membrane. The transducer is made by bonding a thin piezoelectric ring to a thin, fully supported, circular membrane.

V-stack piezoelectric actuator

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
Aeroelastic control of wings by means of a distributed, trailing-edge control surface is of interest with regards to maneuvers, gust alleviation, and flutter suppression. The use of high energy density, piezoelectric materials as motors provides an appealing solution to this problem. A comparative analysis of the state of the art actuators is currently

Piezoelectrically Actuated Tunable Capacitor

Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2006
This paper describes the design, fabrication, and characterization of the first MEMS piezoelectric tunable capacitors employing zinc oxide (ZnO) actuation. Relatively simple design rules for the device-structure optimization for largest deflection are shown from simulation results based on theoretical equations.

Plane ultrasonic piezoelectric actuators

Conference Record of the Power Conversion Conference - Yokohama 1993, 2002
Two prototypes of plane ultrasonic piezoelectric actuators were experimentally constructed, and the fundamental characteristics were measured. The vibration mode of actuators was also analyzed by ANSYS, and compared with the experimental results.

Piezoelectric micro-lens actuator

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2015
Abstract This paper reports the design, simulation, fabrication and characterization of a piezoelectric actuation structure for out-of-plane micro-lens movement. The structure consists of eight unimorph piezoelectric actuators symmetrically attached to a lens holding frame at one end through eight connecting beams and to the silicon substrate at the ...

Mechatronics using piezoelectric actuators

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 1999
Abstract Mechatronics has enabled “intelligent” machinery such as car antiskid braking systems to be created. Any new automotive development has to incorporate a large number of mechanical servo functions, and the range of functions and requirements in servo technology is growing apace.
