Analysis of a discrete-layout bimorph disk elements piezoelectric deformable mirror [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems, 2018
We introduce a discrete-layout bimorph disk elements piezoelectric deformable mirror (DBDEPDM), driven by the circular flexural-mode piezoelectric actuators. We formulated an electromechanical model for analyzing the performance of the new deformable mirror. As a numerical example, a 21-actuators DBDEPDM with an aperture of 165 mm was modeled.

An active piezoelectric plane X-ray focusing mirror with a linearly changing thickness [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation
X-ray mirrors for synchrotron radiation are often bent into a curved figure and work under grazing-incidence conditions due to the strong penetrating nature of X-rays to most materials.

Thermal deformation compensation scheme to the sub-nanometre level of a piezoelectric offset mirror for MHz repetition rate free-electron laser [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation
Free-electron laser (FEL) facilities operating at MHz repetition rates can emit lasers with average powers reaching hundreds of watts. Partial absorption of this power induces thermal deformation of a few micrometres on the mirror surface.

Ultrathin monolithic bimorph mirror using polarization-inverted lithium niobate wafer [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Deformable mirrors (DMs) serve diverse applications and have been adopted in X-ray optics recently. DMs are being used in various X-ray optical systems with variable parameters, with piezoelectric bimorph mirrors favored the most.

Picometre-level surface control of a closed-loop, adaptive X-ray mirror with integrated real-time interferometric feedback [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation
We provide a technical description and experimental results of the practical development and offline testing of an innovative, closed-loop, adaptive mirror system capable of making rapid, precise and ultra-stable changes in the size and shape of ...

Scalable stacked array piezoelectric deformable mirror for astronomy and laser processing applications [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2014
A prototype of a scalable and potentially low-cost stacked array piezoelectric deformable mirror (SA-PDM) with 35 active elements is presented in this paper. This prototype is characterized by a 2 μm maximum actuator stroke, a 1.4 μm mirror sag (measured for a 14 mm × 14 mm area of the unpowered SA-PDM), and a ±200 nm hysteresis error.

Robust control of a bimorph mirror for adaptive optics system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We apply robust control technics to an adaptive optics system including a dynamic model of the deformable mirror. The dynamic model of the mirror is a modification of the usual plate equation. We propose also a state-space approach to model the turbulent

Calibration of force actuators on an adaptive secondary prototype [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the context of the Large Binocular Telescope project, we present the results of force actuator calibrations performed on an adaptive secondary prototype called P45, a thin deformable glass with magnets glued onto its back.
