Piezoelectricity and valley Chern number in inhomogeneous hexagonal 2D crystals

open access: yes, 2018
Conversion of mechanical forces to electric signal is possible in non-centrosymmetric materials due to linear piezoelectricity. The extraordinary mechanical properties of two-dimensional materials and their high crystallinity make them exceptional ...

Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Metal‐Organic Framework Embedded Electrospun Fibrous Membranes‐Based Hybrid Nanogenerators with Hierarchical Modified Polyamide Films for Mechanical Energy Harvesting and IoT Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid nanogenerator (HNG) based on a zinc‐metal‐organic framework‐loaded fibrous film integrated with a hierarchically modified nylon film having micropatterns and micropores is fabricated via an electrospinning technique, and its electrical properties are optimized. The HNGs are incorporated into wearable garments and automobile systems for practical

Room-Temperature Hydrogen-Sensing Capabilities of Pt-SnO2 and Pt-ZnO Composite Nanoceramics Occur via Two Different Mechanisms

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
Impressive room-temperature gas-sensing capabilities have been reported for nanomaterials of many metal oxides, including SnO2, ZnO, TiO2, WO3, and Fe2O3, while little attention has been paid to the intrinsic difference among them.

First Principles Theories of Piezoelectric Materials

open access: yes, 2007
Piezoelectrics have long been studied using parameterized models fit to experimental data, starting with the work of Devonshire in 1954. Much has been learned using such approaches, but they can also miss major phenomena if the materials properties are ...

Enhanced Switching Performance in Single‐Crystalline PbTiO3 Ferroelectric Memristors for Replicating Synaptic Plasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrated single‐crystalline PbTiO3‐based memristors with atomically sharp interfaces, well‐ordered lattices, and minimal lattice mismatch. The devices exhibited an ON/OFF ratio exceeding 105, high stability, and rich resistance‐state modulation.

Cobalt Oxide Porous Nanofibers Directly Grown on Conductive Substrate as a Binder/Additive-Free Lithium-Ion Battery Anode with High Capacity

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2017
In order to reduce the amount of inactive materials, such as binders and carbon additives in battery electrode, porous cobalt monoxide nanofibers were directly grown on conductive substrate as a binder/additive-free lithium-ion battery anode.

DENTA: A Dual Enzymatic Nanoagent for Self‐Activating Tooth Whitening and Biofilm Disruption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanoapatite with dual enzymes (DENTA) accumulates in dentinal tubules, reducing hypersensitivity caused by dental nerve exposure and facilitating continuous ROS generation through salivary glucose for effective, long‐term whitening. The dentin structures remain non‐destructive due to the low concentration of ROS, demonstrating excellent cell ...
