Piezoelectric and mechanical properties in bovine cornea

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2003
AbstractThe piezoelectric coefficient (d31) and Young's modulus (E) were investigated as a function of degree of hydration for bovine cornea. The piezoelectric and mechanical responses observed were anisotropic, and d31 decreased, whereas E increased with decreasing the degree of hydration.

Electric properties of an embedded piezoelectric layer

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 1994
The one-dimensional vibration mode of a piezoelectric layer under different load conditions has been reconsidered. Derived analytical expressions for admittance and impedance at special frequencies are listed. Based on the expressions derived, two applications are proposed involving electrical measurements on a piezoelectric plate.

Piezoelectricity as a Fundamental Property of Biological Tissues

Nature, 1967
Piezoelectric effects have been produced in a number of soft tissues, as well as hard, and appear to be associated with the presence of oriented fibrous proteins such as collagen. Thus, piezoelectricity may be a universal property of living tissue, and may play a significant part in several physiological ...

Piezoelectric membranes for separation processes: Fabrication and piezoelectric properties

Journal of Membrane Science, 2013
Abstract Piezoelectric membranes were produced by “poling” prefabricated polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes in an electric field. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies revealed that electrical poling changed the microstructure of membranes significantly.

Piezoelectric Properties of 1-3 Piezoelectric Tubular Composites

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
The piezoelectric coefficients of 1-3 piezoelectric tubular composites are studied. Taking into account the non-uniform electric field distribution in piezoelectric tube, the piezoelectric coefficients as functions of volume fraction, aspect ratio, tube density and matrix materials were discussed.

Structural Characteristics and Piezoelectric Properties of Electrospun Piezoelectric nanofibers

MRS Proceedings, 2005
ABSTRACTThis paper reports the development and characterization of PZT nanofibers with average diameters ranged from 50 to 150 nm for various sensing and actuation applications. PZT nano fibers have been developed by sol-gel electrospinning process. Both randomly distributed and uniaxially aligned PZT fibers were obtained from the sol-gel solution with

Piezoelectric Properties of Non‐Polar Block Copolymers

Advanced Materials, 2011
Most polymers are typical dielectric materials, but recent research in our group has shown that nanostructured block copolymer morphologies exhibit new and unexpected electroactive behavior. We present herein the fi rst study of converse piezoelectric properties in non-crystalline polymer systems, consisting of non-polar monomers, and evaluate its ...

New Materials with Piezoelectric Properties

2005 12th International Symposium on Electrets, 2006
The discovery of a piezoelectric response in low density polypropylene (LDPP) suggests that other material, properly treated, might also exhibit both piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. The search for new materials is inspired by the relatively low temperature (/spl sim/70degC) depolarization of LDPP and the desire to choose independently the ...

Piezoelectric and Electrostrictive Properties

1971
The piezoelectric and electrostrictive properties of crystals (particularly the former) have important practical applications. Piezoelectric crystals are so widely used in hydroacoustics, electroacoustics, communications, and measurement techniques that it is impossible to imagine the operation of many electrical and electronic devices and measuring ...
