Analysis of the impedance resonance of piezoelectric stacks

2000 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium. Proceedings. An International Symposium (Cat. No.00CH37121), 2002
Inversion techniques to determine the complex material constants from the impedance data of a zero bond-length stack resonator are studied. The impedance equation examined in this paper is based on the derivation by Martin [G.E. Martin, JASA, 36, pp. 1496-1506, 1964]. The asymptotic solutions for the case where the number of layers n is large (n>8) and

Modeling for Piezoelectric Stacks in Series and Parallel

2013 Third International Conference on Intelligent System Design and Engineering Applications, 2013
Piezoelectric energy harvesting is a new type technology of green energy. To increase energy harvesting efficiency from below frequencies, which exist mostly in ambient, the piezoelectric stack assembled electrically in series and parallel is used as the energy harvester.

Crabbot: A Pole-Climbing Robot Driven by Piezoelectric Stack

IEEE Transactions on Robotics, 2022
Problems of large sizes and low displacement resolutions widely exist in most of the pole-climbing robots based on electromagnetic or electrostatic motors, which greatly decrease the reachable workspace and influence their utility for inspection tasks. Here, we present a piezoelectric pole-climbing robot (Crabbot) to overcome these shortcomings, which ...

Large signal measurements on piezoelectric stacks

Ferroelectrics, 1995
The knowledge of the dielectric large signal properties of piezoelectric actuators for dynamic use is necessary to estimate the limits of application, to optimize the driving electronics, and to improve the actuator materials. A measurement technique has been developed for determination of the large signal parameters capacity, loss tangent, loss power,

Performance dependence of a stick-slip piezoelectric actuator on the angle between the piezoelectric stack and mover

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2021
The angle between the piezoelectric stack (PES) and the mover would significantly affect the output performances of stick-slip piezoelectric actuators in theory; however, this issue has not been explored. Accordingly, in this paper, to investigate the effects of the angle, a stick-slip piezoelectric actuator with a changeable angle between the PES and ...

Comparison of piezoelectric and electrostrictive actuator stacks

SPIE Proceedings, 1992
Piezoelectrics have been around for decades as acoustic or sensing components. In the last few years, however, they have seen increasing use as means to provide motion and control in the micron realm, well below the resolution level of mechanical or electromechanical devices. Their high hysteresis (15 - 20%), however, was a problem in some systems, and

Durability Properties of Piezoelectric Stack Actuator

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1998
Changes of temperature were measured for stack actuators having various values of E c and bending strength. The increase of temperature was 75°C in the center of low E c stack for a starting environment temperature of 120°C with 130 Hz driving frequency.

Multilayer piezoelectric stack actuator characterization

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Future NASA missions are increasingly seeking to use actuators for precision positioning to accuracies of the order of fractions of a nanometer. For this purpose, multilayer piezoelectric stacks are being considered as actuators for driving these precision mechanisms.

A novel linear motor with piezoelectric stacks

2010 International Conference on Computer, Mechatronics, Control and Electronic Engineering, 2010
A new type of linear motor based on non resonant vibration with piezoelectric stacks was investigated. The operation principle of the motor was studied basing on the output characteristic of the piezoelectric stack. The elliptical trajectory could be excited at driving top which was proved theoretically.

Characterization of Piezoelectric Stacks for Space Applications

Earth & Space 2008, 2008
Future NASA missions are increasingly seeking to actuate mechanisms to precision levels in the nanometer range and below. Co-fired multilayer piezoelectric stacks offer the required actuation precision that is needed for such mechanisms. To obtain performance statistics and determine reliability for extended use, sets of commercial PZT stacks were ...
