Large signal measurements on piezoelectric stacks
Ferroelectrics, 1995The knowledge of the dielectric large signal properties of piezoelectric actuators for dynamic use is necessary to estimate the limits of application, to optimize the driving electronics, and to improve the actuator materials. A measurement technique has been developed for determination of the large signal parameters capacity, loss tangent, loss power,

Analysis of the impedance resonance of piezoelectric stacks
2000 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium. Proceedings. An International Symposium (Cat. No.00CH37121), 2002Inversion techniques to determine the complex material constants from the impedance data of a zero bond-length stack resonator are studied. The impedance equation examined in this paper is based on the derivation by Martin [G.E. Martin, JASA, 36, pp. 1496-1506, 1964]. The asymptotic solutions for the case where the number of layers n is large (n>8) and

A novel linear motor with piezoelectric stacks
2010 International Conference on Computer, Mechatronics, Control and Electronic Engineering, 2010A new type of linear motor based on non resonant vibration with piezoelectric stacks was investigated. The operation principle of the motor was studied basing on the output characteristic of the piezoelectric stack. The elliptical trajectory could be excited at driving top which was proved theoretically.

Characterization of Piezoelectric Stacks for Space Applications
Earth & Space 2008, 2008Future NASA missions are increasingly seeking to actuate mechanisms to precision levels in the nanometer range and below. Co-fired multilayer piezoelectric stacks offer the required actuation precision that is needed for such mechanisms. To obtain performance statistics and determine reliability for extended use, sets of commercial PZT stacks were ...

Analysis on coupled vibration of piezoelectric ceramic stack with two piezoelectric ceramic elements
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019A longitudinally polarized piezoelectric ceramic stack with two piezoelectric ceramic elements is an important part of sandwich piezoelectric transducers. The three-dimensional coupled vibration of piezoelectric ceramic stack is analyzed. Since the longitudinal and radial dimensions of particular piezoelectric ceramic stacks are approximately equal ...

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2016
For the piezo-driven microgripper, one issue is to enlarge the grasping stroke and realize parallel grasping movement in the compact design. Piezoelectric stack actuator (PSA) and piezoelectric cantilever actuator (PCA) are two kinds of typical piezoelectric actuators. In this study, a novel microgripper hybrid driven by a PSA and two PCAs is proposed,

A charge controller for linear operation of a piezoelectric stack actuator
IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2005This paper examines the position control problem of piezoelectric stack actuators and presents a method for overcoming the hysteresis nonlinearity between the applied voltage and the actuator displacement. An inverting charge control circuit is implemented to linearize the stack actuator movement by taking advantage of the linear relationship between ...

Compact piezoelectric stacked actuators for high power applications
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2000Small, hollow, multilayer actuators with a diameter of 3 mm were fabricated by the stacking method from piezoelectric hard lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics. Langevin vibrators were also constructed with the hollow multilayer actuators. The performance capabilities of the actuator and Langevin vibrator samples were examined under high-power ...

Ultrafast Displacement Actuation of Piezoelectric Stacks With Time-Sequence
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2017Driving a piezoelectric stack with fast response and high output force is critical for its application. A novel ultrafast time-sequence driving method for piezoelectric stacks that could be used in fuel injectors is described and demonstrated. This technique is shown capable of reducing the response time of a piezoelectric stack by considering the ...

Tracking control of a distributed-parameter piezoelectric stack actuator
2009 European Control Conference (ECC), 2009The combination of flatness-based trajectory planning and feedforward control with asymptotically stabilizing dynamic feedback control is considered for the tracking control of a distributed-parameter model of a piezoelectric stack actuator.
