Comparison of piezoelectric and electrostrictive actuator stacks
SPIE Proceedings, 1992Piezoelectrics have been around for decades as acoustic or sensing components. In the last few years, however, they have seen increasing use as means to provide motion and control in the micron realm, well below the resolution level of mechanical or electromechanical devices. Their high hysteresis (15 - 20%), however, was a problem in some systems, and

Analytical solution of piezoelectric composite stack transducers
Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 2013This article presents the dynamic analytical solution of piezoelectric composite stack transducers under external harmonic mechanical loads, which is based on the linear theory of piezoelasticity. The solution is obtained by using the displacement method.

A novel linear motor with piezoelectric stacks
2010 International Conference on Computer, Mechatronics, Control and Electronic Engineering, 2010A new type of linear motor based on non resonant vibration with piezoelectric stacks was investigated. The operation principle of the motor was studied basing on the output characteristic of the piezoelectric stack. The elliptical trajectory could be excited at driving top which was proved theoretically.

Ultrasonic Transducer with Stacked Porous Piezoelectric Ceramics
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1993Stacked porons Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 (P-PZT) disks are applied to an ultrasonic transducer of 50 kHz to lower the resonance impedance in the thickness mode vibration. The stacked disk structure is composed of four adhered P-PZT disks. Each of them has a resonance frequency of 200 kHz in the thickness mode. The transducer with stacked P-PZT disks, evaluated

Characterization of Piezoelectric Stacks for Space Applications
Earth & Space 2008, 2008Future NASA missions are increasingly seeking to actuate mechanisms to precision levels in the nanometer range and below. Co-fired multilayer piezoelectric stacks offer the required actuation precision that is needed for such mechanisms. To obtain performance statistics and determine reliability for extended use, sets of commercial PZT stacks were ...

Inter-element mounting for stacked piezoelectric transducers
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992In a preferred embodiment, an inter-element mounting for ceramic elements in a piezoelectric transducer stack, which mounting includes two metal plates disposed between adjacent surfaces of the ceramic elements. The metal-plates are cantilevered with respect to the surfaces of the ceramic elements, such that a substantial portion of the areas of the ...

Composite piezoelectric spinal fusion implant: Effects of stacked generators
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2015AbstractSpinal fusion surgeries have a high failure rate for difficult‐to‐fuse patients. A piezoelectric spinal fusion implant was developed to overcome the issues with other adjunct therapies. Stacked generators were used to improve power generation at low electrical load resistances.
