Review of Ferroelectric Domain Imaging by Piezoresponse Force Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This chapter describes the principles, theoretical background, recent developments, and applications of a local probe-based technique for nondestructive highresolution ferroelectric domain imaging and manipulation-piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM ...

Lateral Piezoelectricity of Alzheimer's Aβ Aggregates

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most frequent neurodegenerative disorder in the elderly aged over 65. The extracellular accumulation of beta‐amyloid (Aβ) aggregates in the brain is considered as the major event worsening the AD symptoms, but its ...

Ferroelectric modulated visual devices with spatial and temporal polarization‐sensitivity for information recognition and processing in visibility‐degraded environments

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
Conventional imaging systems often struggle to recognize objects accurately in challenging environments such as underwater or foggy scenes. We developed a polarization‐sensitive artificial vision device inspired by the mantis shrimp that uses advanced two‐dimensional materials and a ferroelectric layer to directly sense, process, and retain visual ...

Van der Waals ferroelectric semiconductor tunnel junction with ultra‐low switching voltage

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric tunnel junctions are promising building blocks for energy‐efficient memory and brain‐inspired computing, but their practical use is limited by the relatively high voltages required for operation. Here, we develop an all‐two‐dimensional ferroelectric tunnel junction based on AgBiP2Se6 that enables reliable memory operation below 0.2 V and ...

Topological Structuring of Adhesive Layers to Enhance Resistance against Interfacial Fracture

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A hybrid bonding method that combines chemical affinity with mechanical interlocking is demonstrated. This approach uses a solution‐based technique to create a porous layer that strongly adheres to one substrate and templates a robust mechanical interlock with the other adherend. By tuning the pore geometry, crack propagation is effectively suppressed,

Interferometric Vector Piezoresponse Force Microscopy for Simultaneous Ferroelectric Domain and Crystallographic Orientation Mapping in Uniaxial Ferroelectric Polycrystals

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Interferometric vector piezoresponse force microscopy is used to reconstruct crystallographic grain orientations in polycrystalline ferroelectrics directly from local electromechanical response. The approach reveals grain orientation, polarization direction, and domain structure simultaneously, establishing a pathway toward EBSD‐like orientation ...

Temperature Dependence of Surface Polar State of SrTiO3 Ceramics Obtained by Piezoresponse Force Microscopy

open access: yes
The existence of polar state on the surface of strontium titanate ceramics was obtained by piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) in temperature range from 8 to 295 K. This polar state is nonswitchable and relaxes fast at room temperature.

A Polar Topology Network Induces Elastic Stiffening in Ferroelectric Oxide Superlattices

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The periodicity in BiFeO3/SrTiO3 superlattices tunes the system into a dense, elastically constrained polar texture state. This topology‐rich regime reveals a collective mechanical response in which interactions among polar topological defects restrict local deformations, producing a pronounced elastic stiffening.
