To demonstrate the utility of piggyback multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) for a hyperopic-presbyopic surprise after cataract surgery in highly myopic patients.Case report.A 43-year-old woman with high myopia presented with dense subcapsular cataracts. The IOL power calculated with the Haigis formula gave a lens of -7D for emmetropia in the right eye.

Imaging Quality of Bifocal Piggyback Intraocular Lens versus ReSTOR and TECNIS Multifocal Lenses
Purpose The imaging quality provided by a piggyback integrated by a monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) + a bifocal IOL of zero power and +3.75 diopters of addition is compared with the optics quality of a simple multifocal IOL of the same power and ...

Clinical Outcomes of Piggybacking a One-Piece IOL With a Three-Piece IOL in Eyes With Nanophthalmos
Journal of Refractive Surgery, 2022Purpose: To compare the nanophthalmic eyes in which a three-piece intraocular lens (IOL) along with a one-piece IOL and two one-piece IOLs were used for piggyback IOL implantation into the capsular bag. Methods: This retrospective comparative case series included 61 eyes of 31 ...

Introduction: Piggyback IntraOcular Lenses (IOLs), or supplementary secondary implant lenses, have been developed to provide a sufficient dioptric power in eyes with high refractive defects, which are not fully correctable after cataract surgery with single IOL in the range of powers available.

Temporary Polypseudophakia (Piggyback IOLs)
2020The combination of a permanent intraocular lens (IOL) sequestrated in the capsular bag and a temporary IOL placed in the ciliary sulcus—a location from which it can be easily removed later—is referred to as temporary polypseudophakia. It allows the surgeon to aim for emmetropia immediately after surgery in young children and avoid leaving hyperopia ...
