Pigmented basal cell carcinoma in Hispanics

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1996
Pigmented basal cell carcinoma (PBCC) may occasionally be misdiagnosed as melanoma. In the Hispanic population, PBCC is common. We attempted to determine the prevalence of PBCC in a Hispanic population.A randomized, blinded, retrospective study was designed to assess histologic slides for the presence of microscopic pigment.

Pigmented Basal Cell Carcinomas

Archives of Dermatology, 1974
To the Editor.— I read with great interest the comment of Dr. J. L. Walter in theArchives(108:277, 1973) that Dr. C. DeFeo's remark in theArchives(105:447,1972), concerning the incidence of pigmented basal cell carcinomas in blue-eyed persons, was inconsistent with his experience in Sydney.

Dermoscopy of pigmented basal cell carcinoma

Clinics in Dermatology, 2002
While the incidence varies with race, 7% of basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are pigmented.1,2 When present, melanin is preferably seen in the superficial component of the tumor.1 Within the tumor mass, melanin can be confined to melanocytes or additionally taken up in surrounding tumor cells.3,4 As well, melanin can be found in dermal melanophages and in ...

Pigmented basal cell carcinoma mimicking nodular melanoma

BMJ Case Reports
The most common form of primary skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Pigmented BCC is a less common clinical presentation in BCC spectrum, where the tumour contains pigment. Some cases can exhibit morphological features that mimic those of nodular melanoma (NM).

Reflectance confocal microscopy of pigmented basal cell carcinoma

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2006
Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a high-resolution imaging tool for in vivo noninvasive evaluation of skin lesions. We sought to describe the relevant RCM features for pigmented basal cell carcinoma (BCC).Pigmented skin lesions with a differential diagnosis of pigmented BCC were imaged using dermoscopy and RCM, followed by excision for ...

Pigmented basal cell carcinoma: Investigation of 70 cases

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1992
Pigmented basal cell carcinoma (PBCC) is a clinical and histologic variant of BCC.Our purpose was to identify the histologic subtypes of BCC that were most often associated with pigment and to determine whether this correlated with outcome after excision.A series of PBCC was identified and the histologic subtype noted.
