Study on time effect of residual pressure and bearing characteristics of jacked pile in saturated silt foundation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The history of stress in soil mass and pile surface roughness significantly impacts the time effect of residual pressure at the pile end and bearing characteristics of the jacked pile.

Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,

Bioinspired Mechanically Robust Organic–Inorganic Hybridized Bio‐Adhesives With up to 50% Inorganic Components by Bi‐Continuous Phase Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust plant protein adhesive was prepared by fabricating a bi‐continuous organic–inorganic hybrid structure. Compared with traditional organic–inorganic hybrid adhesives, the addition amount of inorganic phase is increased from 0.2%–3.0% to 50%, and the strength and toughness are increased by 6 and 121 times, respectively.

Collapse of stone column foundations due to inundation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
An important problem encountered by foundation engineers involves partially saturated soils which possess considerable in-situ dry strength that is largely lost when the soils become wetted. Foundation design in such soils is difficult at best.

An elasto-plastic model for unsaturated soil incorporating the effects of suction and degree of saturation on mechanical behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The paper presents an elasto-plastic model for unsaturated soils that takes explicitly into account the mechanisms with which suction affects mechanical behaviour as well as their dependence on degree of saturation.

Elephant‐Skin‐Inspired Porous Cementitious Tiles with Programmable Crack Networks for Passive Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Analysis on Response of a Single Pile Subjected to Tension Load Considering Excavation Effects

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
With the development of urbanization, numerous excavations are carried out to facilitate the development of underground space. As a support for tunnel structures, uplift piles are often installed prior to tunnel excavation.
