Design of deep pile caps by strut-and-tie models

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2019
There are many methods for designing pile caps, but there is still no consensus on which one provides the best approach for the practical engineers. In Brazil, many structural designers use the classical Blévot method; however, the applicability of the ...

Experimental Study on the Force Characteristics of Superlong Pile Groups in Silty Sand

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
Laboratory model testing of single pile and superlong pile groups in saturated silty sand was conducted to investigate the response and bearing behavior of superlong pile groups with a high or low cap under vertical loads. The load transfer mechanism and

Analysis of the nodal stresses in pile caps

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2018
Pile caps can be dimensioned using, preferably, plastic models (strut-and-tie) and models based on the flexion theory. In order to analyze the behavior of the stresses in the lower and upper nodal regions of the cap, a theoretical analysis of the ...

Study on Seismic Performance of Improved High-Strength Concrete Pipe‐Pile Cap Connection

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Four prestressed high-strength concrete pile- (PHC pile-) pile cap connections under low-cycle loading were tested to study the test phenomena, failure modes, hysteretic performance, ductility, and bearing capacity.

Prospects for the Measurement of the Higgs Yukawa Couplings to b and c quarks, and muons at CLIC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The investigation of the properties of the Higgs boson, especially a test of the predicted linear dependence of the branching ratios on the mass of the final state is going to be an integral part of the physics program at colliders at the energy frontier

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...
