Design of Machine Foundations on Piles [PDF]
A practical method for the analysis of pile-supported foundations subjected to dynamic loadings is described. The method uses a single-degree-of-freedom mass-spring-dashpot model of a form similar to that used for shallow foundations to analyze the response of the actual system. The method of analysis uses the concept of an equivalent cantilever, which

Pile foundations in permafrost [PDF]
Doctoral thesis dealing with the construction and design of pile foundations on permafrost. Laboratory creep tests support the use of a simple shear analysis to predict pile creep in permafrost. A wave equation analysis was adapted for frozen soils and the dynamics of pile driving in permafrost were studied.

Analysis of Pile Foundations with Batter Piles
Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1950This paper presents a method of analysis of pile loads in foundations involving nonparallel piles, when both longitudinal and lateral resistances of piles are taken into account.

On Capacity of Pile Foundations
Foundation Engineering in the Face of Uncertainty, 2013Probabilistic models for soil properties are used to calculate the first two moments and the distribution for the capacity of pile foundations. Resulting properties are used to develop design equations based on partial and complete characterization of soil properties. Partial characterization is limited to the first two moments of soil strength.

Stiffness of piled raft foundations
2010This paper deals with some peculiar aspects of the load – settlement behaviour of piled rafts, which have been highlighted by a large series of centrifuge loading tests. Some of the results from tests with jacked piles in loose sand, in direct contact with a circular rigid raft, are presented. In the tests some of the model piles were instrumented with

Publisher Summary Piles are used to transfer the load to deeper, more stable layers of soil. Large structures were built in Egypt, Asia, and Europe prior to the advent of piles. The first undisputed evidence of the use of piles is in the Arles circus arena built in France by Roman engineers.

A Study of Piled Raft Foundation
2021Nowadays, piled raft foundation is increasingly being used not only in developed countries but also in developing countries like India. This paper is based on the study of piled raft foundation constructed in Uttarakhand, India, with the help of finite element software ELPLA and finite difference software GROUP.

In the design of pile and pier foundations the construction procedures play a significant and often dominant part in determining the extent of settlement that may occur. Settlements are examined under two simplified categories; (1) those that occur although adequate knowledge already exists for their prevention, and (2) those that occur for reasons ...

Stability of pile foundation in karst
2011 International Conference on Multimedia Technology, 2011In karst terrain, base rock surface is undulate and space of karst cavity is various. When pile foundation is used in karst, it is necessary to consider the stability issues of pile foundation. Based on the interrelation of pile and surface characteristics of the base rock and karst cavity position, the stability issues of pile foundation in karst may ...
