The Problem of Pile Group–Pile Cap Interaction

Géotechnique, 1971
Synopsis The Paper presents an elastic analysis of two problems concerning the interaction with the supporting ground of an arbitrarily spaced group of piles, embedded in a smooth ground contacting pile cap of any shape, namely the load displacement behaviour of the system and the load distribution between the piles in the group and the cap.

Load Transfer Mechanisms in Piles and Pile Groups

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1982
This paper describes patterns of measured load transfer in a full-sized instrumented pile group; subgroups within the main group; and in single control piles loaded in compression. The effects of residual stresses and uplift loading on load transfer are also described.

Optimisation of pile groups

Computers and Geotechnics, 1987
Abstract The optimisation of pile groups is studied using an optimisation technique in conjunction with a discrete element method for pile group settlement analysis. It is demonstrated that it is possible to optimise the performance of pile groups by minimising the load differentials between piles and/or differential settlements.

Uplift Capacity of Piles and Pile Groups in Sand

OCEANS '86, 1986
Offshore structures supported by pile foundations are sometimes subjected to uplifting forces due to wave, wind, and ice actions. This paper presents the results of laboratory model tests for ultimate uplift capacity of single and group metal piles embedded in saturated medium and dense sand. The results have been compared with existing theories.

Simplified Calculation Approach for Settlement of Single Pile and Pile Groups

Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, 2012
AbstractThis paper proposes a simple analytical approach for nonlinear analyses of the load-displacement response of single piles and pile groups. Two models were adopted in the proposed approach. One model is based on a hyperbolic nonlinear relationship to simulate the behavior between unit skin friction and pile displacement developed along the pile ...

Pile–soil–pile interaction in pile groups with batter piles under dynamic loads

Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2011
Abstract A simple analytical solution is developed for computing the dynamic interaction tensor for floating pile groups with batter piles. For this purpose, the governing differential equations are derived for an unloaded batter floating pile closely spaced to another loaded pile with the same properties.

Theoretical Study on Pile Length Optimization of Pile Groups and Piled Rafts

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2010
Pile groups are frequently designed with equal or similar pile lengths. However, the significant interaction effects among equal-length piles imply that this may not be the optimized configuration. This paper presents the optimization analyses of piled rafts and freestanding pile groups, where pile lengths are varied across the group to optimize the ...

Effects of Pile Cap in Single Pile and Lateral Capacity of Pile Group

Advances in Deep Foundations, 2005
This paper describes the results for a numerical analysis of single piles and pile groups in clayey soils subjected to monotonous lateral loading using the ABAQUS finite element software. The investigated variables in this study include free head and embedded capped single piles, pile diameter (1.0 m, 0.5 m), pile length (7.0 m, 10.0 m), and pile ...

Scour at pile groups

1978
An investigation of local scour at pile groups has been conducted with the aim of developing design recommendations. A series of steady uniform flow experiments was carried out with the scour hole characteristics recorded. All tests were conducted under clear water scour conditions. Initially scour was examined for three different pile diameters (21 mm,
