The settlement of Jacob's family in Egypt does resemble a refugee's humble and vulnerable dependency on the good will of their lords and neighbours. But their fate is quite good. When Joseph's brothers request that they may live as foreigners in Goshen, Pharaoh gives them permission to settle in the best part of Egypt and Joseph provides for them.

This essay explores the ideas of pilgrimage and some of the pilgrim-images in human life. It also explores the images of light and enlightenment as they pertain to the pilgrimage experience, suggesting that enlightenment, in a religious sense, is an act of surrender instead of will.

In the limestone-shaded recesses of the Caves Branch Rockshelter (CBR) of Central Belize, bioarchaeologists uncovered the fragmented, fragile skeletal remains of an older female (Burial 99). The modified shape of her cranium, molded and elongated when she was a young child, indicated that she likely died during the Late Classic (AD 699–900).
