The Physiology and Biochemistry of Pili

1988
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews and discusses the structure and function of pili in light of recent advances employing biochemical, immunological, and genetic approaches. Bacterial “fimbriae” or “pili” are thin (2-1 2 nm diameter) non-flagellar protein filaments found on the surfaces of many types of bacteria.

Ultrasound Characteristics of the Hair Follicles and Tracts, Sebaceous Glands, Montgomery Glands, Apocrine Glands, and Arrector Pili Muscles

Journal of ultrasound in medicine, 2018
To explore the capability of very high‐frequency ultrasound (US; 50–71 MHz) to detect the normal morphologic characteristics of the hair follicles and tracts, sebaceous glands, Montgomery glands, apocrine glands, and arrector pili muscles.

A pilin chaperone required for the expression of electrically conductive Geobacter sulfurreducens pili.

Environmental Microbiology, 2019
Mechanisms controlling the expression of the electrically conductive pili (e-pili) of Geobacter species are of interest because of the important role of e-pili in diverse biogeochemical processes, anaerobic digestion and electromicrobiological ...

Purification of somatic pili

1994
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the procedure for the purification of somatic pili. Somatic pili mediate a multiplicity of other functions which, in the most general sense, enable bacteria to colonize host surfaces or to occupy inanimate environmental habitats.

PILI TORTI

Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1941
Pili torti is a rare anomaly of the hair which is characterized by a twisting of each hair through 180 degrees along its long axis, giving each hair the appearance of a corkscrew. The tortuosities may be tightly or loosely bound and may be at varying distances from each other. The hairs are sparse, unkempt, dull and fragile.
