In 1960 the 1st contraceptive pill utilizing estrogen and progesterone was marketed. Since then 150 million women the world over have used the pill. However the benefits must be weighed against definite risks. A summary is given here of 2 American studies and 1 conducted in Britain on the subject.

In their statement about oligomenorrhea, I believe it would be more helpful to emphasize the need to evaluate the underlying cause of the oligomenorrhea. In our recent review

In May, 1995, an 80-year-old man was referred to a neurology department because of slowness of thought and speech, dysarthria, tremor, micrography, and poor balance and mobility with a wide-based gait. Computed tomograms (CT) of his brain showed no abnormalities. A degenerative process of unknown origin was diagnosed.
