Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Multi-Source Data-Driven Framework for Work State Classification in Fabric Pilling and Linting Performance Assessment

open access: yesIEEE Access
Fabric pilling performance is one of the key indicators for evaluating textile quality, but there is limited research on the effectiveness of pilling detection traceability and non-intrusive monitoring of detection equipment operating status.

THE BEHAVIOUR OF FABRICS USED FOR ANTIMIS PRODUCTION TO PILLING [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Oradea: Fascicle of Textiles, Leatherwork, 2016
The present study about the behaviour of plain textiles used for the production of antimis (Christian-orthodox liturgical item used in the liturgy) to pilling explores the functional classification of different types of antimis as a textile product made ...

The robustness of objective fabric pilling evaluation method

open access: yes, 2009
Previously, we proposed a new method to identify fabric pilling and objectively measure fabric pilling intensity based on the two-dimensional dual-tree complex wavelet reconstruction and neural network classification.

A computerized Langmuir probe system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
For low pressure plasmas it is important to record entire single or double Langmuir probe characteristics accurately. For plasmas with a depleted high energy tail, the accuracy of the recorded ion current plays a critical role in determining the electron

Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Innovative Approach to Textile Pilling Assessment Using Uniform Digital Imaging

open access: yesFibers
During use, the surface of textile fabrics is prone to wear, which can cause changes such as pilling. Pilling (entanglement of fibers) is primarily assessed using the standard visual method EN ISO 12945-4:2020, but it can also be quantitatively measured ...

ANALYSIS OF THE FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS USING THE ANOVA MODEL [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Oradea: Fascicle of Textiles, Leatherwork, 2019
In this paper, it’s analyzed the surface characteristics of woven fabrics. Of these features, the pilling effect is a typical pattern of flat textiles, which consists in forming, on their surface, of clusters of adherent fibers consisting of three types ...

Radiolysis of Amino Acids by Heavy and Energetic Cosmic Ray Analogs in Simulated Space Environments: $\alpha$-Glycine Zwitterion Form

open access: yes, 2014
In this work, we studied the stability of the glycine molecule in the crystalline zwitterion form, known as {\alpha}-glycine ($^{+}$NH$_{3}$CH$_{2}$COO$^{-}$) under action of heavy cosmic ray analogs.

Applying an Ethical Lens to the Treatment of People With Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The practice of neurology requires an understanding of clinical ethics for decision‐making. In multiple sclerosis (MS) care, there are a wide range of ethical considerations that may arise. These involve shared decision‐making around selection of a disease‐modifying therapy (DMT), risks and benefits of well‐studied medications in comparison to
