Pilocarpine is a direct-acting parasympathomimetic agent exerting a broad spectrum of pharmacological actions mediated through muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. It is non-selective for the various muscarinic receptors and does not stimulate nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
