Evolutionary history of Middle American Rhamdia (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) inferred from comparative mitogenomic data: Insights on historical biogeography and cave colonization in the group

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1501-1518, November 2025.
Investigating the systematics and biogeography of Neotropical catfishes of the genus Rhamdia refined phylogenetic hypotheses, including deep paraphyly of Rhamdia laticauda, supported northward dispersal catalyzed by emergence of the Panamanian Isthmus and imply that cave colonization is widespread, convergent, and recent, with established cave‐dwelling

Efeito de fatores abióticos na larvicultura de pintado amarelo Pimelodus maculatus (Lacépède, 1803): salinidade e cor de tanque - DOI: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v26i2.1859

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences, 2008
Fatores abióticos podem determinar o sucesso na larvicultura de algumas espécies de peixes. A cor do tanque e salinidade da água de criação podem promover alterações no comportamento e na fisiologia das pós-larvas de peixes.

Illuminating the Dark: Using eDNA Metabarcoding to Study the Unique Ichthyofauna of the Furnas Formation Sinkholes

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
Using eDNA metabarcoding, we assessed fish diversity in isolated sinkholes in southern Brazil, uncovering signs of local extinction and species persistence. This approach offers a non‐invasive tool for biodiversity assessment and informs conservation efforts in unique karst environments.

Mini DNA barcodes reveal the details of the foraging ecology of the largehead hairtail, Trichiurus lepturus (Scombriformes: Trichiuridae), from São Paulo, Brazil

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2022
The largehead hairtail, Trichiurus lepturus, is an opportunistic, voracious, and piscivorous predator. Studies of fish feeding behavior based on the analysis of stomach contents are limited by the potential for the visual identification of the ingesta ...

Low‐Effort eDNA Sampling Reveals Fish Community Patterns in a Neotropical River Basin

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
Low eDNA sampling effort (< 10 sample sites) using a portable on‐site kit with syringe filters and a modest water volume (< 500 mL per site) provided a rapid and robust snapshot of fish biodiversity. Environmental DNA based species richness increases along the upstream‐downstream gradient showing a significant negative correlation with river elevation ...

CONSERVATION STATE OF SILURIFORMES FISHES FROM THE RAMSAR SITE JAAUKANIGAS (MIDDLE PARANA RIVER), ARGENTINA ESTADO DE CONSERVACION DE PECES SILURIFORMES DEL SITIO RAMSAR JAAUKANIGAS (RIO PARANA MEDIO), ARGENTINA

open access: yesGayana, 2009
The Siluriformes conservation state was quantified by means of the SUMIN index, composed by the sum of 12 outstanding variables for the species survival and/or conservation.

A new species of Pimelodus LaCépède, 1803 (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) from the rio São Francisco drainage, Brazil

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
Pimelodus pohli, new species, is described from the rio São Francisco drainage. It differs from congeners by the following characters in combination: adults with dark spots on anterodorsal region of body and young specimens (up to 100 mm SL) with three ...

Relationship Between Marine Fish Production and Climatic and Oceanographic Factors: Evidence From the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The fisheries sector is a cornerstone of Bangladesh's economy, contributing significantly to national gross domestic product (GDP) and export earnings. However, the production of other marine fish falls short of national expectations due to various reasons, such as overexploitation, destruction of habitat, pollution, climate change and ...
