Analysis of pinch and grip strength after carpal tunnel release

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1989
This study evaluates the time required for grip and pinch strength to return to preoperative levels after carpal tunnel release. Grip strength was 28% of preoperative level at 3 weeks; 73% by 6 weeks, and returned to the preoperative level by 3 months. At 6 months grip strength was found to increase to 116%.

Assessment of Thumb to Index Pulp to Pulp Pinch Grip Strengths

Journal of Hand Surgery, 1986
In this study of fifty men and women with normal hand function, the strength of thumb to index finger pulp to pulp pinch grip was assessed with the remaining fingers either flexed or extended. When the pinch grip was performed with the remaining fingers flexed the value was up to 92% higher than when the remaining fingers were extended.

Superior pinch strength in the dominant versus nondominant hand

Sport Sciences for Health, 2013
We evaluated the differences in pinch strength between the thumb and each of the fingers in the dominant and nondominant hands. The subjects were 30 healthy young adult males (mean age 18.5 ± 2.6 years, mean height 174.2 ± 6.5 cm, mean weight 68.0 ± 7.9 kg) with right hand dominance.

An Analysis of Finger Pinch Strength in Children

Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1986
This study examined 3 types of pinch strength and handgrip strength among children between the ages of 5.3 and 7.9 years. Maximal strength of four pulp pinches, the chuck pinch and the lateral pinch were measured as well as maximal handgrip strength. Data analysis showed that the chuck and lateral pinched were the strongest while the pulp pinch with ...

Grip and pinch strength: normative data for adults.

Archives of physical medicine and rehabilitation, 1985
The primary purpose of this study was to establish clinical norms for adults aged 20 to 75+ years on four tests of hand strength. A dynamometer was used to measure grip strength and a pinch gauge to measure tip, key, and palmar pinch. A sample of 310 male and 328 female adults, ages 20 to 94, from the seven-county Milwaukee area were tested using ...

Reduction of grip strength, finger flexion pressure, finger pinch pressure and key pinch following flexor tendon repair

The Journal of Hand Surgery: Journal of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, 1987
67 patients with 176 repaired flexor tendons have been reviewed after a mean follow-up interval of 26.4 months. After repair, mean grip strength was 74.5%, mean finger flexion pressure 76.8% and mean finger pinch pressure 74.7% of that of the opposite uninjured hand or digit. For 16 patients with repaired flexor pollicis longus tendons, mean key pinch

A study of pinch strength in normal Taiwanese adults.

Gaoxiong yi xue ke xue za zhi = The Kaohsiung journal of medical sciences, 1995
The purpose of this study was to describe norms of pinch strength for normal Taiwanese adults and to investigate the effects of age, gender, height, weight, and digit length on pinch strength. Three types of pinch (i.e. tip, key, and palmar pinch) were measured for a sample of 356 adults aged 20 to 88 years from a major metropolitan city located in ...
