Pterygium and Pinguecula: Electron Microscopic Study
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1967Eight pterygia alone, eight pterygia combined with pingueculae, and three pingueculae were studied by light and electron microscopy to evaluate the changes in collagen and elastic tissue that occur in these conditions. Hyaline degeneration in these growths results from an increase in the amount of a substance composed of degenerating collagen fibers ...

Pinguecula and Sjögren's syndrome: two cases
Lupus, 2001A pinguecula is a small, raised conjunctival nodule at the temporal or nasal limbus classically associated with conjunctival microtrauma from exposure to sunlight and/or to dust. We report two cases occurring during the course of Sjögren's syndrome. To our knowledge this association has never been described.

Relationship Between Contact Lens and Pinguecula
Eye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2019Purpose: To investigate the effects of contact lens (CL) on the frequency of pinguecula, and the relationship between dry eye disease and pinguecula. Methods: Two hundred and 33 cases of soft CL wearers and 230 age-matched nonwearers were enrolled in the study.

In this poster presentation I compare two similar subjects which relate to pathology of the eye. I have chosen this subject because people often get confused about these pathological conditions These pathological conditions have some similar causes and similar ways of treatment.

The pathology of pingueculae in Gaucher's disease
Ophthalmic Genetics, 1984Several reports have noted an apparent association between pingueculae and Gaucher's disease and suggested that the yellow coloring of these lesions is attributable to Gaucher cells. The authors biopsied pingueculae from ten patients with this disorder and examined them by serial light microscopy and electron microscopy.

Pinguecula et pterygion: tude histopathologique et ultrastructurale
Virchows Archiv A Pathological Anatomy and Histology, 1978Two pingueculae combined with pterygia were studied by light and electron microscopy. Hyaline degeneration of the collagen, dark staining granular, von Kossa negative concretions and elastotic material were observed in both conditions together with marked changes in the fibroblasts, endothelial cells, pericytes and the basement membrane of conjunctival

Ligneous Conjunctivitis After Pingueculae Removal in an Adult
Cornea, 1989A 45-year-old man who had uneventful excision of bilateral pingueculae developed bilateral membranous lesions involving the bulbar conjunctivae and corneas. Histologically, the membranes were composed mainly of large fibrinous deposits intermixed with acute and chronic inflammatory cells with areas of fibroblastic and capillary proliferation resembling
