Controlling the plasmon resonance via epsilon-near-zero multilayer metamaterials

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2020
Localized plasmon resonance of a metal nanoantenna is determined by its size, shape and environment. Here, we diminish the size dependence by using multilayer metamaterials as epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) substrates.

Role of substrate softness in stabilizing surface nanobubbles

open access: yesGreen Energy & Environment, 2020
The contact line pinning and supersaturation theory for the nanobubble stability has attracted extensive concerns from experimental investigators, and some experimenters argue that the contact line pinning is unnecessary.

On the origin of the sharp, low-field pinning force peaks in MgB2 superconductors

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
Various MgB2 thin films and single crystals were found in the literature to exhibit a sharp, narrow peak at low fields in the volume pinning force, Fp(H)-diagrams.

Effect of Sulfur Content on the Properties and MnS Morphologies of DH36 Structural Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The behavior of MnS, a significant non-metallic inclusion in steel with low sulfur content, is poorly understood, in particular, how the MnS inclusion becomes a favorable secondary phase. To clarify how the sulfur content in DH36 structural steel affects

Dynamic influence of pinning points on marine ice-sheet stability: a numerical study in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2016
The East Antarctic ice sheet is likely more stable than its West Antarctic counterpart because its bed is largely lying above sea level. However, the ice sheet in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica, contains marine sectors that are in contact with the ...

Ru–Mo solid–solution catalyst for hydrogen evolution in alkaline electrolyte

open access: yesNano Research
Hydrogen energy carrier produced by water electrolysis in alkaline electrolytes is rather meaningful and significant for global sustainability imperatives, while the high-pH condition usually leads to a poor reversibility of proton adsorption and ...

Vortex Transport and Pinning Effectiveness in Conformal Pinning Arrays

open access: yes, 2013
We examine the current driven dynamics for vortices interacting with conformal crystal pinning arrays and compare to the dynamics of vortices driven over random pinning arrays. We find that the pinning is enhanced in the conformal arrays over a wide range of fields, consistent with previous results from flux gradient-driven simulations. At fields above
