Free rein: Are feral horses competing with native ungulates in British Columbia?

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 3, April 2026.
We investigated little‐studied feral horses in west‐central British Columbia, Canada, as a potential competitor for native moose and mule deer. We did not find strong evidence that feral horses exclude moose or deer from habitat or resources at a large landscape scale or smaller spatiotemporal patch scale.

Exploring the Metric Systems of Medieval New Towns in Central Europe: Reconstruction of Urban Plot Scheme Using Cosine Quantogram and Modular Analysis

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 68, Issue 2, Page 173-183, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examines plot divisions and units of measurement in regular medieval new towns in Central Europe, with a particular focus on historical Silesia. By applying the cosine quantogram method alongside GIS‐referenced cartographic sources and modular analysis, the research reconstructs the spatial organization of urban layouts. The results

Liver disease in management and outcomes of European and Asian patients with atrial fibrillation: A report from two observational prospective registries

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 4, April 2026.
In this large European–Asian cohort of patients with atrial fibrillation, liver disease was linked to lower oral anticoagulant use—particularly in Europe—and to higher risks of mortality and cardiovascular events. These findings highlight the adverse impact of liver disease, especially when oral anticoagulation is withheld.

Mechanical Insights Into Polymeric Multilayers Films Using Nanoindentation and the Structural Compliance Method

open access: yesStrain, Volume 62, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study applies nanoindentation to resolve layer‐specific mechanical properties in photovoltaic backsheet multilayer polymers. Structural compliance correction reduces substrate flexure and edge artefacts, enabling reliable hardness and modulus mapping.

A computational model for retinal haemodynamics under gravitational and postural variations

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 7, Page 2698-2716, 1 April 2026.
Abstract figure legend The haemodynamic impact of gravitational and postural changes on the retina, and its relevance to spaceflight associated neuro‐ocular syndrome (SANS), remains incompletely characterized. This study assesses retinal haemodynamics from upright to head‐down tilt using a lumped‐parameter model that dynamically couples intraocular ...
