Investigation of heat transfer in timber boards and a simulated wall section to eliminate colonies of the west Indian drywood termite, Cryptotermes brevis (Blattodea: Kalotermitidae)

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 63, Issue 4, Page 425-433, November 2024.
Abstract Cryptotermes brevis (Walker) (Blattodea: Kalotermitidae) is one of the most destructive drywood termites that attack moisture‐protected timber in service. Heat treatment has been studied to control these termites, but the low thermal conductivity of wood can result in prolonged treatment times and the need for high temperatures to eliminate ...

Pest categorisation of Pyrrhoderma noxium

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 22, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract Following the commodity risk assessment of bonsai plants (Pinus parviflora grafted on Pinus thunbergii) from China performed by EFSA, the EFSA Plant Health Panel performed a pest categorisation of Pyrrhoderma noxium, a clearly defined plant pathogenic basidiomycete fungus of the order Hymenochaetales and the family Hymenochaetaceae.

Needle pathogens of Rhytismataceae: Current knowledge and research opportunities for conifer foliar diseases

open access: yesForest Pathology, Volume 54, Issue 1, February 2024.
Abstract Needle diseases caused by pathogens within Rhytismataceae are increasing in frequency globally where pines are either a predominate species or are grown commercially, and yet remain poorly understood. Here, we provide background information on the current knowledge and management strategies of needle pathogens in the Rhytismataceae and discuss

Modular, multi‐barcode amplicon sequencing for improved species‐level detection of fungal phytopathogens: A case study of pipeline establishment targeting the Ophiostomatales

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 6, Issue 1, January–February 2024.
In a diagnostics framework, metabarcoding of single, universal molecular barcodes does not discriminate accurately enough for many groups of important fungal phytopathogens at the required species level. In this study, a modular, multi‐barcode amplicon sequencing pipeline was established to provide rapid and reliable diagnostics targeting the ...

Wood Basic Density Variation Along Pinus occidentalis , Swartz, and Pinus caribaea , var. Caribaea, Morelet tree stems

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente
Abstract Pinus occidentalis and Pinus caribaea are important conifers in La Sierra, Dominican Republic, used to recover degraded ecosystems. A study on their wood density obtained from stem discs at three relative heights (RH) as a composite sample showed that wood density increased with age class for both species and decreased with RH in the stem.
