Ecological and Social Dimensions of Human-Bear Coexistence in Nepal's Gaurishankar Conservation Area. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We modelled habitat suitability for Asiatic black bears in Nepal's Gaurishankar Conservation Area and combined it with community surveys to understand human–bear coexistence. Our results show that bear habitat is concentrated between 1000 and 3000 m and that conflict is rising in forest‐edge communities.

Low abundance of phytophagous nematodes under invasive exotic Pinus elliottii - enemy release and plant-soil feedbacks. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary According to the enemy release hypothesis (ERH), the fitness of exotic plants and their capacity to become invasive in their area of introduction may partly be attributable to the loss of their natural enemies. Invasive species may also benefit from modifying soil attributes and thereby creating a positive soil–plant feedback.
