Unexpected consequences of taxonomic misidentification for the conservation of an endangered species

This article reports on the unexpected consequences of taxonomic misidentification of the endangered fir Abies hickelii in eastern Mexico. Misidentification led to positive outcomes, such as unintentional population increases through reforestation, but also negative outcomes, including logging and altered demographic structure.
