Informing Litter Decomposition Models With Molecular Diversity Data

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Predicting litter decomposition remains a central challenge in biogeochemical modeling. Traditional models of litter decomposition lack the chemical resolution necessary to capture intra‐molecular interactions like chemical protection of carbohydrates and proteins by lignins, which creates a bottleneck during decomposition, and do not describe

Electrical pruning of Pinus radiata epicormic growths

open access: yesTrees, Forests and People
A novel method for pruning epicormic growths with high voltage energy pulses is presented. This method could be utilized in autonomous forest management, for example by a drone carrying an electrical pulse generator and applicator pruning device.

Provenance legacies override species effects in shaping oak rhizosphere microbiomes and metabolomes

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 1, Page 488-504, July 2026.
Graphical representation of experimental setup. Quercus spp. seeds were collected at two origins: upper Rhine basin (URB) and north German lowland (NGL). Summary As climate change drives more frequent drought‐heat extremes, selecting drought‐tolerant trees is crucial for future forest resilience. However, the role of tree–microbial associations remains

Time-of-Flight Adjustment Procedure for Acoustic Measurements in Structural Timber

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
The effect of timber length on time-of-flight acoustic longitudinal measurements was investigated on the structural timber of four Spanish species: radiata pine (Pinus radiata D.

Epidemiology of Diplodia Shoot Blight Outbreaks in Pine Forests After Hailstorm Events

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 75, Issue 4, July‐August 2026.
The analysis of Diplodia shoot blight outbreaks in pine stands following hailstorms showed that the disease seems to follow a monomolecular model, with 80% of canopy damage occurring within 40 days after the hail event. Low accumulated precipitation in the days preceding the hailstorm appeared to predispose stands to outbreaks.

Morphological Instability, Especially in Pinus radiata [PDF]

open access: yesBotanical Gazette, 1914
The various behaviors of the vegetative and reproductive shoots in the Coniferae have for many years been the objects of extended observation and experiment, and these have been the basis of a massive literature. From this we may derive no mean conception of the amount of morphological instability which characterizes that genus which, in some regards ...

Radial Growth and Wood Density Reflect the Impacts and Susceptibility to Defoliation by Gypsy Moth and Climate in Radiata Pine

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Drought stress causes a reduction in tree growth and forest productivity, which could be aggravated by climate warming and defoliation due to moth outbreaks.

Heartwood Formation in Pinus radiata (D. Don) [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1953
IN a paper which is to be published by the New Zealand Forest Service entitled “Heartwood Formation in Pinus radiata”, it has been shown that conditions which are conducive to the occurrence of physiological drought retard heartwood formation in this species, but that where a deep root system can be developed in an area with adequate rainfall but ...
