Responses of ectomycorrhizal fungi to changes in carbon and nutrient availability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi may receive 20% of the total C fixed by their host plants and are essential components of host nutrient acquisition. As a consequence of the vast physiological diversity that exists among ECM fungi, changes in community ...

The contribution of wood‐inhabiting fungi and bacteria to dead wood decomposition varies along a regional climatic gradient

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Dead wood decomposition is a crucial ecological function in forests, influenced by climate and facilitated by microbial communities. While fungi are considered the primary decomposers, bacteria also contribute, interacting with fungi in both facilitative and competitive

BROAD-SENSE HERITABILITY FOR SEEDLING CHARACTERS AND ITS IMPORTANCE FOR BREEDING IN SCOTS PINE

open access: yesSüleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi Fen Dergisi, 2009
: Number of cotyledons, lengths of hypocotyl and epicotyl, and height of three-month seedlings, and height and root collar diameter of one year seedlings grown from sixteen clones of a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) seed orchard were investigated in ...

First report of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus on Pinus sylvestris in Spain

open access: yesForest Systems
Aim of the study: To determine if the decline of a Pinus sylvestris L. stand is due to pine wilt disease. Area of study: This research was conducted in the Agricultural and Phytopathological Laboratory of Galicia, LAFIGA (AGACAL, Xunta de Galicia).

Генетический полиморфизм клонов и их семенного потомства в архивно-клоновой плантации плюсовых деревьев сосны обыкновенной [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Изучена генетическая изменчивость по 12 аллозимным локусам (10 полиморфных) архивно-клоновой плантации 23 плюсовых деревьев Pinus sylvestris L. и их семенного потомства на юго-востоке Украины.

Divergent shifts in hydraulic versus carbon acquisition functional traits after wildfire in four Rocky Mountain tree species

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Climate change has increased the frequency and severity of drought and large wildfire events across western North America. Despite the increasing concurrence of drought and wildfire events and the importance of forests as a global carbon sink, the impacts of fire on ...

Edges as ecological filters: Asymmetrical orientation‐specific arthropod activity across forest boundaries

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Moderate retention forestry creates structurally sharp forest edges that act as ecological filters, shaping orientation‐specific activity of ground‐dwelling arthropods. Using drift‐fence pitfall traps, we show that activity aligned with ecotones is more frequent than activity across forest–clearcut boundaries, particularly among detritivores.

Dose dependence of morphological changes and aberration to the plantation of pine in the Chernobyl NPP exclusion zone [PDF]

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2009
Dose rates to the Scots pine’ (Pinus sylvestris L.) apical meristem at three experimental sites were calculated. The morphological and cytogenetic changes of the trees were estimated, and the dependences of these changes on the dose rates to the apical ...

Phytoremediation of metal contaminated soil with the use of tree seedlings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Phytoremediation was performed on two research plots at Poček military training ground. The first research plot (polluted with Pb and Cu) is situated at the shooting range and the second in its close vicinity, where soil is less loaded with metals ...
