Provenance variation in Pinus caribaea, P. oocarpa and P. patula ssp. Tecunumanii

open access: yes, 2016
An international study of provenance variation in Pinus caribaea Morelet and P. oocarpa Schiede in Central America and the Caribbean started in the early 1960s. By the early 1970s seed had been distributed to over fifty countries for many hundreds of trials.

Apparent density of wood determined by two different methods in Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis and Pinus tecunumanii

open access: yesAdvances in Forestry Science
The aim of this study was to compare the apparent wood density obtained by two different methods in populations of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis and Pinus tecunumanii, both 50 years old, located in Itirapina, SP. For this purpose, five trees of each species were selected.

Seed-borne Fungi of Pinus tecunumanii Seeds in Tanzania

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2023
Abstract Seed health is an important attribute to be taken care of since it is from a healthy seed that a healthy plant is regenerated. Seed-borne fungi are among the severe pathogens causing significant losses in the quantity and quality of Pinus seeds. Fungi reduce seedling vigor and low seed germination to disease.

Multispecies comparison of host responses to Fusarium circinatum challenge in tropical pines show consistency in resistance mechanisms

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 46, Issue 5, Page 1705-1725, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Fusarium circinatum poses a threat to both commercial and natural pine forests. Large variation in host resistance exists between species, with many economically important species being susceptible. Development of resistant genotypes could be expedited and optimised by investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying host resistance and ...

Growth and dynamic modulus of elasticity of Pinus patula × Pinus tecunumanii hybrids in Mpumalanga, South Africa [PDF]

open access: yesSouthern Forests: a Journal of Forest Science, 2016
Field establishment of South Africa’s most important commercial pine species, Pinus patula, is severely hampered by the pitch canker fungus, Fusarium circinatum. Importantly, hybrids between P. patula and other pine species tolerant to the pitch canker fungus, such as P. tecunumanii and P. oocarpa, have been identified as an alternative planting stock.

EFFECT OF PLANT EXTRACTS AND GROWTH SUBSTRATES ON CONTROLLING DAMPING-OFF IN PINUS TECUNUMANII SEEDLINGS [PDF]

open access: yesCERNE, 2016
ABSTRACT Damping-off is considered one of the most limiting phytosanitary problems in conifer seedling production because it may cause massive damage or total plant death in short time periods. This pathology is caused by a complex of microorganisms, the most common of which are Fusarium spp. and Rhizoctonia spp.

Effect of foliar fertilization and soil conditioners on the rooting of a hybrid of Pinus tecunumanii vs. Pinus caribaea var. honduransis

open access: yesAdvances in Forestry Science, 2022

Comparison of Methods for Estimating Mechanical Properties of Wood by NIR Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy provides a rapid alternative to traditional methods of wood property assessment. For organizations who assess wood properties on a large scale, multisite, multispecies calibrations are of practical interest. We examined NIR spectroscopy for the estimation of density (at 12% moisture content), modulus of elasticity (MOE),
