Concrete Pipe Culvert Behavior—Part 1
Journal of the Structural Division, 1974An 84-in. (2.14-m)-diam., reinforced concrete, dummy pipe culvert, with a 1,000-D load rating, was buried under 136 ft (41.5 m) of highway embankment. Six 40-ft (12.2-m)-long zones were subjected to the following bedding and backfill parameters: (1) pipe in trench, shaped bedding; (2) pipe in trench, unshaped, fine aggregate bedding; (3) positive ...

Design of Pipe-Jacking, Pipe-Roofing, and Box Culvert Structures
2019Pipe-jacking was developed based on the shield tunneling method. Compared to the shield tunneling method, pipe-jacking is used to install the water supply pipelines, the drainage pipelines, the gas pipelines, and the cable pipelines.

Service Life Assessment of Concrete Pipe Culverts
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1988The durability and service life of concrete pipe culverts are discussed. The study reported includes the analysis of important enabling and triggering events that have caused or have the potential to cause the deterioration of concrete pipes. Regression analyses were used to produce prediction equations for the expected service life of culverts.

Performance Survey of Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culverts
1961Methods of installation and design criteria have tended to restrict the usefulness of rigid pipe culverts. With the increased mileage of highways which meet high standards, there has been an increase in the number of pipe culverts installed under high fills.

In-Service Corrosion of Galvanized Culvert Pipe
1989The Wyoming Highway Department changed the criteria it was using to select corrosion protection levels for culvert pipe in 1981. A study was undertaken to compare the effect of these changes in selection criteria to corrosion developed on pipe in service.

Modeling Construction Production Rates for Pipes and Culverts
Pipelines 2005, 2005Storm sewers construction often falls on the critical path of highway construction schedule and any delays can disrupt project schedule and also increases chances of traffic jam especially in urbanized areas. This paper proposes accurate ways of estimating the production rates of reinforced concrete pipe and precast concrete box culverts in order to ...

Morton’s Gap Culvert-Pipe Installation
1960The attached report, "Interim Performance Report on Morton's Gap Culvert Pipe Installation", by James H. Havens, is primarily a listing of the status of the condition of pipe still in the test and the date of failure or removal of the other sections. Mr.

Field Performance of High Density Polyethylene Culvert Pipe
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2005The effect of installation procedures on the field performance of existing high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe used for drainage applications on highway projects was investigated. A total of 45 HDPE pipes were inspected at sites in South Carolina that were statistically selected based on geographical location, pipe diameter, use, and age.

Camber Design Study for Concrete Pipe Culvert
1964When a pipe culvert is constructed on or near the natural ground surface and covered by a highway fill or embankment, the weight of the embankment compresses and consolidates the foundation soil, settlement occurs, and the culvert subsides and sags below the original grade line.
