Scour Protection of Underwater Pipelines

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Construction, 2018
A detailed literature review on the protection of local scour beneath a submarine pipeline is presented. The review covers two basic parts of countermeasures against the pipeline scour, namely preventing the onset of scour and stimulating the self-burial of a pipeline.

Time Scale for Scour Beneath Pipelines Due to Long-Crested and Short-Crested Nonlinear Random Waves Plus Current

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
This article derives the time scale of pipeline scour caused by 2D (long-crested) and 3D (short-crested) nonlinear irregular waves and current for wave-dominant flow.

Numerical investigation of the influence of the small pipeline on local scour morphology around the piggyback pipeline [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
YesThis paper presents the results from a numerical simulation study to investigate the effect of the position angle (α) of small pipeline on the local scour and the hydrodynamic force around the piggyback pipeline in steady current conditions.

Erosion Corrosion Behavior of Several Typical Pipeline Materials in Flowing Seawater [PDF]

open access: yesCailiao Baohu, 2021
In order to verify the erosion and corrosion resistance of several different common seawater pipelines in ship, the erosion and corrosion resistance characteristics of 4 kinds of pipelines material were tested in the seawaters flows with different flow ...

Sorting of sand grains around submarine pipelines under the oblique wave

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2016
Non-equilibrium sediments transport near the submarine pipeline results in local scour, thus endangering the operation of the pipeline. To investigate the sorting of sand grains in local scour hole under regular wave action, an experimental study is ...

Quantifying Variable Importance in Predicting Critical Span Length and Scour Depth for Failure of Onshore River Crossing Pipelines Using ANN

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Onshore oil and gas pipelines are often buried beneath the river bed and channel banks. One of the primary reasons for the exposure of buried pipelines is the scouring mechanism that occurs when shear stress induced on riverbed by flowing water exceeds ...

Development of current-induced scour beneath elevated subsea pipelines

open access: yesJournal of Ocean Engineering and Science, 2018
When scour occurs beneath a subsea pipeline and develops to a certain extent, the pipeline may experience vortex-induced vibrations, through which there can be a potential accumulation of fatigue damage.

Numerical investigation of wave-induced local scour around a submarine pipeline

open access: yes, 2014
A two-dimensional numerical model is developed in this work to predict the local scour around subsea pipelines induced by the orbital fluid motion due to free-surface water waves. Instead of being simplified as an oscillatory flow, the motion of the wave

Local scour around two pipelines in tandem in steady current

open access: yes, 2014
In this study, local scour around two identical pipelines in a tandem arrangement are investigated numerically. Two-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are solved for simulating the flow around the pipelines and the conservation ...
