Passiflora clypeophylla, an endemic species to the Guatemalan karstic forests last seen in 1889 and deemed extinct, was rediscovered in the Department of Alta Verapaz, east of Cobán. Examining piperaceae specimens obtained in Bolivia and Brazil by E. de la Sota, five collections of Bolivian pipers were discovered that cannot be identified with any of the known species and that here are described as new to science.
