Five new species of Piper from Bolivia
Examining piperaceae specimens obtained in Bolivia and Brazil by E. de la Sota, five collections of Bolivian pipers were discovered that cannot be identified with any of the known species and that here are described as new to science.

Anti-inflammatory activity of a crude extract of Piper magnibaccum (Piperaceae) and of compounds isolated from it was established using the TPA-induced mouse ear edema model and an in vitro quantitative lipoxygenase inhibition assay.

Due to the globular nature of the pollen it is not likelythat wind or rain are significantpollination agents.
