Late Burdigalian (Miocene) age for pectinids (Mollusca-Bivalvia) from the Pirabas Formation (northern Brazil) derived from Sr-isotope (87 Sr/86 Sr) data [PDF]

open access: yesNeues Jahrbuch für Geologie und Paläontologie - Abhandlungen, 2017
The faunas of the highly fossiliferous Pirabas Formation belong to the southern part of the biogeographical unit known as "Neogene Tropical America". This unit developed prior to the closure of the Central American Seaway by the Isthmus of Panama. Until now, the age of the Pirabas Formation was inferred only from biostratigraphy.

First Record of Miocene Polychaete Cirratulids in the Atlantic Ocean from the Pirabas Formation of Brazil: A MicroCT Approach [PDF]

open access: yesAnuário do Instituto de Geociências
A new record of the cirratulid polychaete Diplochaetetes mexicanus Wilson, 1986 from the of Miocene Pirabas Formation outcrops (Burdigalian to Langhian) is documented in the context of the paleodiversity of the equatorial margin of Brazil and represents the first record for the equatorial shelf of South America. Brazilian Miocene crabs I. Taxonomic review of Cyclocancer tuberculatus Beurlen, 1958 and Hepatella amazonica Beurlen, 1958 (Pancrustacea, Decapoda, Brachyura) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In describing Cyclocancer to accommodate his new species C. tuberculatus, Beurlen highlighted that his new genus was a cancroid intermediate in form between Atelecyclus and Cancer, but with enough characters to be placed in a new genus. Examination of C.

Miocene heterozoan carbonate systems from the western Atlantic equatorial margin in South America: The Pirabas formation

open access: yesSedimentary Geology, 2020
Abstract Outcrops of Neogene carbonates of the North Brazilian platform occur exclusively along the equatorial coast and represent some of the few existing examples of Neogene carbonate systems of the Atlantic coast of South America. The Pirabas Formation (early-middle Miocene) is the northernmost part of this platform.

Spatial and temporal uplift history of South America from calibrated drainage analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A multidisciplinary approach is used to analyze the Cenozoic uplift history of South America.Residual depth anomalies of oceanic crust abutting this continent help to determine the pattern of present-day dynamic topography.

Tectonics and paleogeography of the Marajó Basin, northern Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2002
The Marajó Basin area presents geologic and geomorphologic features chiefly due to the Mesozoic extension and post-Miocene neotectonics. The extension event with an Early and a Late Cretaceous phases originated four sub-basins that constitutes the Marajó
