Killing of piscivorous birds at Scottish fin fish farms, 1984–1987
Biological Conservation, 1994Abstract In recent years there has been growing concern about the environmental consequences of the rapidly expanding Scottish fish farm industry. One such concern is the control of fish predators. A questionnaire survey (covering 78% of all Scottish fin fish farms) in 1985 showed that many farmers thought piscivorous birds were a problem and that ...

Since 1971, when the Grevelingen estuary was turned into a 108 km2 saline lake, the number of foraging piscivorous birds has increased significantly. Up to 7000 to 10 000 Great Crested Grebes may be present on the lake, representing about half of the northwestern European breeding population.

This study aims to select piscivorous bird species to be used as indicators to monitor changes in fish diversity at the Banc d'Arguin, Mauritania. Such species should have a high diet diversity, low dietary overlap and data should be easy to collect. We compared the diets of five colony nesting bird species at the Banc d'Arguin: the Slender-billed Gull

The accumulation of selected N, K, and P forms in soils within three perennial colonies of black cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) and grey heron (Ardea cinerea) located in northern and eastern Poland were investigated. Soil samples were collected beneath the nests from the most representative for each colony plots.

Experimental infections of laboratory-raised birds supported field data indicating that Common Mergansers (Mergus merganser L.) (prevalence = 20.8%, mean intensity = 3.2) and Red-breasted Mergansers (Mergus senator L.) (prevalence = 4.0%, mean intensity = 1) are important hosts of Eustrongylides tubifex in Ontario.

Experimental approach on the impact of piscivorous birds on a littoral extensive fish-farming

Exposure Science to Investigate Factors Influencing Mercury Concentrations in Non-piscivorous Birds
2018Mercury (Hg) is a ubiquitous environmental contaminant that poses a significant threat to the health of humans, wildlife, and ecosystems. Efforts to reduce anthropogenic Hg emissions, such as the United Nations Environmental Programme Minamata Convention on Mercury, are vital to the protection of human and ecosystem health. Mercury exposure assessments
