Variabilidade genética entre populações de Pistia stratiotes Genetic diversity of Pistia stratiotes populations [PDF]

open access: yesPlanta Daninha, 2005
O manejo de plantas daninhas em ambientes aquáticos requer cuidado diferencial e específico, a fim de evitar a contaminação ou alteração nas funções dos corpos hídricos e otimização do custo-benefício das operações. O estudo das características genéticas

Macrophyte Extracts Promote the Growth of the Microbial Community Associated With Microcystis aeruginosa Alleviating Allelopathic Effects. [PDF]

open access: yesWater Environ Res
Aqueous extracts from Pistia stratiotes and Pontederia crassipes inhibit Microcystis aeruginosa while stimulating its associated microbiota. Reintroduction of microbiota into fresh cyanobacterial cultures reduced allelopathic effects, likely through allelochemical degradation and antioxidative responses.

Double Trouble: Aquatic Invasive Plants Can Promote Mosquitoes. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Lett
ABSTRACT Human activities continue to facilitate biological invasions, profoundly impacting our environment and economy. Plants and insects constitute the majority of invasions to date, with facilitative links established between them, particularly in terrestrial habitats.

The nicotinamide hypothesis revisited-plant defense signaling integrating PARP, nicotinamide, nicotinic acid, epigenetics, and glutathione. [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Lett
Nicotinamide (NIC) and nicotinic acid (NIA) are proposed as stress signaling compounds in plants. Oxidative stress may lead to single strand breaks (SSB) in DNA, which activate poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase (PARP). NIC and NIA are then formed from NAD. NIC and NIA can promote epigenetic changes leading to the expression of defense genes specific for the ...

Ability of Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) And Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) To Remove Methylene Blue Anionic Surfactant (MBAS) From Detergent Wastewater [PDF]

open access: yesNature Environment and Pollution Technology, 2023
ABS was the first surfactant used in detergent formulations, but because its molecular structure is branched, it is difficult to decompose biologically, making ABS a toxic compound for the environment.

Verification of a numerical growth model of Pistia stratiotes L. using field data from tropical and subtropical sites

open access: yesJournal of Freshwater Ecology, 2017
The growth model of Pistia stratiotes L. (Pistia-model) was verified using two independent sets of published field data (07° 26' N, 03° 53' E Nigeria; 27° 30' N, 80° 30' W USA) to answer the following question: Is the Pistia-model, originally designed ...
