Data on the Distribution and Ecology of Pistia stratiotes L. (Araceae) in Hungary. [PDF]
Free‐floating macrophyte invasions pose an increasing threat to lowland freshwater systems in Central Europe, particularly in thermally influenced canal networks. This study provides the first detailed assessment of the distribution, habitat conditions, dispersal, and reproduction of Pistia stratiotes along the Élővíz Canal in southeastern Hungary ...

Macrophyte Extracts Promote the Growth of the Microbial Community Associated With Microcystis aeruginosa Alleviating Allelopathic Effects. [PDF]
Aqueous extracts from Pistia stratiotes and Pontederia crassipes inhibit Microcystis aeruginosa while stimulating its associated microbiota. Reintroduction of microbiota into fresh cyanobacterial cultures reduced allelopathic effects, likely through allelochemical degradation and antioxidative responses.

Double Trouble: Aquatic Invasive Plants Can Promote Mosquitoes. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Human activities continue to facilitate biological invasions, profoundly impacting our environment and economy. Plants and insects constitute the majority of invasions to date, with facilitative links established between them, particularly in terrestrial habitats.

Ability of Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) And Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) To Remove Methylene Blue Anionic Surfactant (MBAS) From Detergent Wastewater [PDF]
ABS was the first surfactant used in detergent formulations, but because its molecular structure is branched, it is difficult to decompose biologically, making ABS a toxic compound for the environment.

The nicotinamide hypothesis revisited-plant defense signaling integrating PARP, nicotinamide, nicotinic acid, epigenetics, and glutathione. [PDF]
Nicotinamide (NIC) and nicotinic acid (NIA) are proposed as stress signaling compounds in plants. Oxidative stress may lead to single strand breaks (SSB) in DNA, which activate poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase (PARP). NIC and NIA are then formed from NAD. NIC and NIA can promote epigenetic changes leading to the expression of defense genes specific for the ...
