The content of pigments and proteins in P. stratiotes is determined. Seventeen amino acids and twelve acylcarnitines are identified and quantified under the action of copper and zinc in the ionic form and in the form of colloidal nanoparticles obtained by metal granules dispersing induced by electric current pulses in water.

A steroid from Pistia stratiotes
Phytochemistry, 1991Abstract A novel stigmastane, 11α-hydroxy-24 S -ethyl-5α-cholest-22-en-3,6-dione, has been isolated from the aquatic plant Pistia stratiotes . The structure determination was accomplished by spectroscopic methods. A revision of the NMR assignments of an analogous cholestane sterol is also reported.
