Pistia stratiotes L. in Nigerian waters
Experientia, 1980Pistia stratiotes L., a perennial water weed found in natural water bodies in Nigeria, removes organic and inorganic nutrients as it grows and spreads in the waters. In a lake which received a variety of pollutants, the plant reduced oxidizable organic matter (4-h permanganate value) by 61%, the biochemical oxygen demand by 85.3%, ammonia nitrogen by ...

Pistia Stratiotes L. - Water Lettuce
2012Pistia stratiotes, water lettuce, is a free-floating aquatic weed that has naturalised in Qld and NSW. It is also found in the NT, where it is considered to be native. Water lettuce is fast-growing and has the ability to form dense mats, blocking waterways and interfering with access to water, fishing and hydro-electric flows.

Accumulation of Trace Elements by Pistia stratiotes: Implications for phytoremediation
Ecotoxicology, 2004The toxicity of eight potentially toxic trace elements (Ag, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn) to Pistia stratiotes was examined to determine if this plant showed sufficient tolerance and metal accumulation to be used to phytoremediate waste water and/or natural water bodies polluted with these heavy metals.

The productivity of Pistia stratiotes L. in a eutrophic lake
Environmental Pollution Series A, Ecological and Biological, 1981Abstract In Nigeria, most of the water bodies receiving organic pollution promote the growth of an aquatic weed, Pistia stratiotes L. A study has been made of the occurrence of this weed in one of the eutrophic lakes, of its growth characteristics and of its possible utilisation.

Calreticulin is enriched in the crystal idioblasts of Pistia stratiotes
Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2003Abstract Calreticulin (CRT) has the highest calcium-binding capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) proteins found thus far in plants. In this study, we isolated cDNAs encoding CRT from Pistia stratiotes L. (Araceae) and analyzed the temporal and spatial patterns of CRT expression in leaves.

[Chemical constituents of Pistia stratiotes L].
Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2002To investigate the chemical constituents of Pistia stratiotes, a kind of duckweed.Compounds were separated by chromatography on sillica gel, and their structures were identified by spectral analysis and chemical evidence.Four compounds were obtained and identified as stigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one, stigmasterol, stigmasteryl stearate and palmitic acid. All ...

The influence of the new for Ukraine invasive species Pistia stratiotes on submerged macrophytes, typical for natural water bodies, was studied. Negative impact of Pistia stratiotes (photosynthetic pigment reduction) on Vallisneria spiralis and Ceratophyllum demersum and positive effect on Elodea ??anadensis was established. P.
