Much attention has recently been given to high-efficiency cooling of pistons in internal combustion engines by cooling channels because of improved thermal efficiency. Cooling a piston efficiently requires a grasp of the gas-liquid multiphase flow state.

Cooling Effects of “Cocktail Shaker” System on Pistons
Although the cocktail shaker cooling of the piston has commonly been applied in high powered diesel engines, the evaluating method of the convective heat transfer rate between the piston surface and the cooling medium has not satisfactorily been made clear.

An experimental investigation of the behavior of oil jets injected by a 90° curved circular nozzle
The high efficiency cooling of pistons in internal combustion engines by oil jets has recently received widespread attention. To date, curved circular oil jet nozzles have been commonly employed.

Analysis of influence of piston motion law on characteristics of working process of single-stage carbon dioxide compressor unit [PDF]
The results presented in the work shows that the implementation of the carbon dioxide compression process in an oil-free low-speed stage of a reciprocating compressor with intensive external cooling can increase the refrigeration coefficient and ...

Thermodynamics of quantum systems under dynamical control
In this review the debated rapport between thermodynamics and quantum mechanics is addressed in the framework of the theory of periodically-driven/controlled quantum-thermodynamic machines. The basic model studied here is that of a two-level system (TLS),

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Technological features of piston casting
The results of studies of obtaining complex castings from aluminum alloys using the self-filling method are presented. The influence of a number of technological parameters (pouring time, chill cooling mode, the use of self-filling, etc.) on the quality ...

A solar engine is disclosed in which a fluid, which is first heated and then cooled, forces a piston outward as the fluid is heated, and then draws the piston inward as the fluid is cooled. The piston is connected to a shaft and produces work as it moves

Dissipative collapse of the adiabatic piston [PDF]
An adiabatic piston, separating two granular gases prepared in the same macroscopic state, is found to eventually collapse to one of the sides. This new instability is explained by a simple macroscopic theory which is furthermore in qualitative agreement
