Exploring the Catalytic Activity and Deactivation Pathway of Fluoride‐Doped Copper Manganese Oxides for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesChemElectroChem, EarlyView.
This work investigates the effect of F‐doped abundant element‐based CuMn2O4$\left(\text{CuMn}\right)_{2} \left(\text{O}\right)_{4}$ to electrolyze O2$\left(\text{O}\right)_{2}$ evolution. The electrical conductivity is significantly enhanced, and increased oxidative currents and lower onset potentials are found by fluoride inclusion.

Experimental investigation of surface activity, micellization behaviour, and enhanced oil recovery performance of saponin‐based green surfactants

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the steps carried out in the laboratory study, including saponin modification and characterization, surface tension, interfacial tension, contact angle, adsorption, and surfactant injection tests. Abstract In this study, three forms of saponin surfactants extracted from the Camellia sinensis plant (CS1, CS2, and CS3)

Liquid–liquid equilibrium studies of n‐butane–bitumen system with application to solvent‐aided in situ bitumen recovery

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Solvent‐assisted recovery methods have gained attention as an alternative to conventional thermal methods which have significant environmental drawbacks and high greenhouse gas emissions. Solvent‐assisted recovery methods can lead to various phase equilibria, such as vapour–liquid equilibrium (VLE) and liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE), under ...

In situ loading of a pore network model for quantitative characterization and visualization of gas seepage in coal rocks

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Fine modeling of a three‐dimensional fracture structure under dynamic loading of coal is carried out. The streamline distribution law of pressure and velocity field in the loading process of the coal specimen is analyzed, the absolute permeability of the coal specimen is calculated, and the feasibility of the pore network model algorithm and finite ...

Phase transitions of photon fluid flows driven by a virtual all-optical piston

open access: yes, 2020
The piston problem, i.e. the dynamics in a uniform gas at rest under the action of a moving piston is fundamental problem of physics and a canonical case study in shock wave physics. We investigate theoretically and experimentally the analogous problem for a photon fluid, which turns out to be strongly influenced by the dispersive character of the ...

A perspective review of applications of the computed tomography (CT) scan imaging technique for microscopic reservoir rock characterization

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In this review, the application of micro‐CT and medical‐CT scanning in the oil and gas industry has been thoroughly discussed. Recent improvements in DRP and modern imaging techniques in the oil and gas industry have been modeled using both experimental and simulation work.

Phase measurement of a segmented wave front using PISton and TILt interferometry (PISTIL).

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
New architectures for telescopes or powerful lasers require segmented wave front metrology. This paper deals with a new interferometric wave front sensing technique called PISTIL (PISton and TILt), able to recover both piston and tilts of segment beams ...

Parametric Study on the Performance of Gas Springs in FPSE With Pneumatic Supporting System

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The introduction of a pneumatic supporting system composed of gas springs and hydrostatic bearings in the free‐piston Stirling generator (FPSG) can effectively increase the power density of the nuclear space power plant. In this paper, a 1 kW FPSG with pneumatic supporting system was developed, and the working characteristics of dual gas ...

Whole‐Mount Acetylcholinesterase Staining Reveals Unique Motor Innervation of the Lamprey Oral Region: With Special Reference to the Evolutionary Origin of the Vertebrate Jaw

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
Whole‐mount acetylcholinesterase staining in lamprey embryos reveals that the subpharyngeal subbranch (rV2/3Asubp) of the trigeminal nerve contains motor components and innervates the lower lip. Based on the results, we suggest that a drastic reorganization of the anterior craniofacial region occurred during the vertebrate jaw evolution.

Rhizodeposit Carbon Gradients: Potentials and Limitations of Destructive Rhizosphere Sampling on a Millimeter‐Scale

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Despite the availability of modern techniques for high‐resolution non‐destructive rhizosphere analysis, destructive examinations yielding a certain minimum soil amount are often required to provide detailed insights into organic matter composition.
