The historiography of Mendel has changed dramatically for the past five decades. Mendel’s paper Versuche uber Pflanzen-Hybriden is no longer simply viewed as an attempt to study the problem of heredity. It is now a consensus that Mendel’s concern, literally speaking, was about the development of hybrids in their progeny.
