Differential Varietal Responses in Faba Bean Concerning Pea Aphid and Pea Necrotic Yellow Dwarf Virus (PNYDV) When Intercropped With Oat

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pest status of pea aphid (Acyrthosiphum pisum H.) in faba bean (Vicia faba L.) cultivation has gained importance because it transmits Pea necrotic yellow dwarf virus (PNYDV), a novel nanovirus in Europe. This study evaluated two faba bean varieties, ‘Fuego’ and ‘GL Sunrise’, grown under sole crop (SC) and intercrop (IC) conditions with oat

Harmonia axyridis Does Not Have Obvious Fitness Gain and Preference to the Red Morph of Acyrthosiphon pisum: A Case Study on a Laboratory Strain

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2018
Prey selection was assumed to be a vital strategy to maximize the fitness of predators. Visual cues are important for predators to locate a prey, and several species of lady beetles have been reported to prefer the red morph pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum

Reconfiguring biofortification strategies to transform food systems and address micronutrient deficiency of the 21st century

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how to make staple foods and horticultural crops more nutritious, including how artificial intelligence‐based screening of gene banks helps deploy nutritionally rich germplasm into breeding. Genome editing can help develop crops richer in minerals, vitamins, and health‐promoting compounds, supporting healthier diets and more ...

Influence of host plant on susceptibility of the aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum (Hemiptera: Aphididae) to the fungal pathogen Pandora neoaphidis (Zygomycetes: Entomophthorales)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2007
The performance of the aphid-specific fungal pathogen Pandora neoaphidis was studied in relation to changes in herbivore resources for the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, on different host plant species.

Refining generic limits in Hyacinthinae (Asparagaceae, Scilloideae): Conflict and concordance between morphology and phylogenomics

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Using Angiosperms353 and plastid genome skimming approaches, the generic limits of Hyacinthinae were explored using DNA sequences to better understand their evolution. Floral morphology, a traditional generic delimiter, conflicts with the molecular groupings in many cases, but bulb morphology and cytogenetics define similar groups to DNA.

The development rhythm of the flower-bud in some Papilionaceae species. III. Macrosporogenesis, microsporogenesis and early gametogenesis in several species of the Vicieae tribe

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
Each of the examined species of the tribe Vicieae (Vicia faba, V. sativa, V, villosa, Lathyrus silvester, L. pratensis and Pisum sativum) has its peculiar characteristic development rhythm of the bud.

PbrIDD2‐PbrAPX14 Module Functions in the Ethylene‐Mediated Ripening and Senescence Process of Pear Fruit

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Endogenous H2O2 participated in the ethylene‐dependent ripening and senescence process of horticultural fruit as a secondary messenger; however, the molecular mechanism beneath such a phenomenon has not been fully clarified until recently. By a conjoint analysis of metabolite, enzyme activities, gene expression profiles in AsA‐GSH cycle of ...
